Continue ReadingAs the state tournaments are right around the corner, I will be taking a look into each district tournaments and seeing the journeys for teams who are playing in the state tournaments. Here is District 1, starting with the 2A class, there are 2 bids available in this district.
Here we will start with the round 1 loser out games, meaning all the losers of these next couple games will be eliminated and see their seasons end. #10 Archbishop Murphy pulled off an upset over #7 Squalicum, by a score of 55-52. Archbishop-Murphy will play #2 Cedarcrest in round 1 non loser out games. #8 Burlington-Edison defeated #9 Sedro-Woolley by a score of 66-64 with Tim Feskov making the game winning basket as time expired. They would advance to play #1 Lynden. For the non-loser out games of round 1, we start with #3 Anacortes taking on #6 Sehome, Anacortes would win 56-40. Sehome will go to the loser out side of round 2. #2 Cedarcrest defeated #10 Archbishop-Murphy by a score of 67-36, Archbishop-Murphy would go to the loser out side of round 2. #4 Lakewood defeated #5 Bellingham, 71-46. Bellingham would go to the loser out side of round 2. #1 Lynden beat #8 Burlington-Edison, 81-65. Burlington-Edison would go to the loser out side of round 2.
Round 2 will start will the semi finals, which happens to be the top 4 seeds of the district. #1 Lynden defeated #4 Lakewood by a score of 62-53. The Lions would advance to the District 1 2A championship game and Lakewood would go to the loser out side of round 3. #2 Cedarcrest beat #3 Anacortes 74-65, advancing to face Lynden in the district championship game. Anacortes will go to the loser out side of round 3. The loser-out side of round 2, we had #5 Bellingham playing #8 Burlington-Edison with the winner advancing to the loser out side of round 3 to play #3 Anacortes. Bellingham would win, 71-61, ending Burlington-Edison’s season. #6 Sehome played #10 Archbishop-Murphy, the winner will advance to the loser out side of round 3 to play #4 Lakewood. Sehome won 61-49, ending Archbishop-Murphy’s season.
Round 3 started with the District 1 2A championship game between #1 Lynden and #2 Cedarcrest. The winner will advance to the state tournament as the loser will go to round 4, for another chance at the last bid to state. Lynden would win 64-43, advancing to state oncer again to try to become state champions for the third straight year. For the loser out side in round 3, we had #3 Anacortes playing #5 Bellingham and Anacortes won 78-60 eliminating Bellingham. #4 Lakewood defeated #6 Sehome, 63-53, sending Sehome’s season.
For round 4, we start with the 2 winners of the last round loser out games, Anacortes/Lakewood, playing each other in a loser out game. Anacortes would pull off the close win, 63-60, ending Lakewood’s season and setting up a rematch against #2 Cedarcrest in a winner-to-state game. For the last bid in this district, #2 Cedarcrest took on #3 Anacortes. This game would go back and forth and even end up going overtime, where Anacortes pulled off the win 62-58. Anacortes would claim the 2nd bid into the state tournament.
TEAMS ADVANCING TO STATE: Lynden HS, Anacortes HS
