Continue ReadingThe regular season has come and gone which means it is now time for the postseason. Nothing can rival Indiana High School Basketball this time of year. While some may argue that the magic of the IHSAA State Tournament ended when we went to class basketball, there is still something pure about the way Indiana does things. Every team is truly back on an even playing field as the regular season is left in the rearview mirror. It is a clean slate to make a run at a coveted spot at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Let’s take a look at the final Prep Hoops Indiana Class-by-Class polls of the regular season.
Class 1A
Team | Record | Previous Ranking |
1. Evansville Christian | 21-2 | #1 |
2. Barr-Reeve | 20-2 | #2 |
3. Bethesda Christian | 17-7 | #4 |
4. Christian Academy | 19-4 | #5 |
5. Orleans | 19-3 | #3 |
6. Morgan Township | 18-5 | #6 |
7. Indianapolis Lutheran | 13-8 | #7 |
8. Tindley | 16-8 | #8 |
9. Clay City | 18-5 | #9 |
10. Greenwood Christian | 14-7 | #10 |
They aren’t ranked in this poll, but Fort Wayne Canterbury deserves to be mentioned a team that has come on strong down the stretch and is a force to be reckoned with in the north. Only Morgan Township is ranked as a Top 10 team in Class 1A North while all other nine teams will go south. Bethesda Christian continues to trend up as well.
Class 2A
Team | Record | Previous Ranking |
1. Brownstown Central | 21-4 | #1 |
2. Providence | 16-3 | #3 |
3. Wapahani | 20-2 | #4 |
4. Tipton | 21-2 | #2 |
5. Park Tudor | 17-5 | #5 |
6. Blackhawk Christian | 18-6 | #7 |
7. Bishop Luers | 18-5 | #6 |
8. Southwestern (Hanover) | 20-3 | #8 |
9. Lapel | 18-5 | NR |
10. Wabash | 17-5 | NR |
Lapel made some noise this past week knocking off Tipton to extend their winning streak to 13 games. There are few teams playing better entering the tournament than the Bulldogs. Manchester and Whitko were considered for the final spot, the convoluted three-way tiebreaker eventually went to Wabash. Unfortunately, #1 and #2 will have to meet in Sectional 46 final while #8 is also in that bracket.
Class 3A
Team | Record | Previous Ranking |
1. Brebeuf Jesuit | 16-5 | #2 |
2. Guerin Catholic | 17-7 | #4 |
3. Scottsburg | 18-5 | #1 |
4. Bishop Noll | 17-7 | #5 |
5. Heritage Hills | 19-4 | #6 |
6. Danville | 18-3 | #3 |
7. Evansville Memorial | 17-5 | #7 |
8. Delta | 18-6 | #8 |
9. Mishawaka Marian | 16-8 | #9 |
10. Bellmont | 20-4 | NR |
Brebeuf got themselves back to #1 entering the state tournament thanks to Scottsburg’s loss last week. Similar to Class 2A though, #1 and #2 are on a collision course to play in the Sectional 27 final. Evansville Memorial enters the tournament playing as well as anyone having won nine straight games. They will likely have a rematch coming with Bosse in the Sectional 32 final.
Class 4A
Team | Record | Previous Ranking |
1. Kokomo | 22-3 | #1 |
2. Fishers | 22-1 | #2 |
3. Noblesville | 20-2 | #3 |
4. Westfield | 19-2 | #4 |
5. Greenfield-Central | 22-0 | #5 |
6. Fort Wayne Wayne | 18-3 | #6 |
7. Lawrence North | 21-3 | #7 |
8. Cathedral | 17-5 | #9 |
9. Ben Davis | 17-5 | #10 |
10. Center Grove | 17-4 | NR |
Fishers’ fans have every right to say that they deserve the #1 spot. They did beat Kokomo 77-55 back on December 9th. However, that was a long time ago and since the new year there hasn’t been a team better than Kokomo. Only one of #2, #3, and #4 can emerge from Sectional 8 while both #7 and #8 would compete eventually in Sectional 10.
