Here are some New Names of players that caught our attention in Charleston on Saturday.
Brian Bess (Confluence): A 2024 point guard who scored a team-high 21 points in the Titans victory over Caruthersville. He helped create a lot of offense with his defense during a decisive second-quarter run with his steals and ball pressure. He was also picking pockets in the open court which led to easy layups. On offense, he used his quickness and tenacity to probe the defense and get into the lane. In addition to getting buckets, he was also dropping off some nice passes to open teammates.
Abeyon Motton (Caruthersville): A 5’9″ 2025 point guard who scored a game-high 26 points against Confluence on Saturday night. He’s not tall, but he has good strength to go along with his speed and quickness. He has a quick first step to the basket and he had some strong finishes in the lane where he took the contact and got the bucket. He displayed some excellent body control in traffic. He shot it well from 3-point range as he elevated well on his jumper. He also had a nice pull up game from the mid-range area.
Tayshon Clark (Charleston): A 6’0″ 2025 combo guard who had some exciting moments in the Bluejays loss to Principia in the event’s finale. He was really cooking in the second quarter when scored on some penetrating drives and hit a pair of high-arching 3-pointers. He is also a willing and capable passer with good speed. He has stepped up this season into one of the team’s top producers with increased playing time this season.
Yabsa N’diaye (Confluence): A 6’4″ 2025 wing player who is an excellent all-purpose player who got things done at both ends of the court. He has good length and athleticism and he was constantly moving and working as he rebounded the ball well and got deflections and steals on the second line of the full court press. He could cover a lot of ground with his long strides when he was driving to the basket and he could finish at a variety of different angles in the lane.
Jermonte Alexander (Caruthersville): A 6’0″ 2025 point guard who had 16 points against Confluence on Saturday night. He is physically strong with good athleticism and he put both attributes to good use as an excellent rebounder. He had a team-high nine rebounds on the night. He had excellent acceleration in the open court as he scored on coast to coast drives in transition. He also had quick reaction and good instincts on the defensive end.
Joe Rauls (Eureka): A 6’0″ 2027 guard who was one of the youngest players at the event, yet he had a big impact with his perimeter shooting in the Wildcats’ victory over Cape Girardeau Central. He scored nine points on three of four shooting from 3-point range. He set up shop in the corner and when the ball swung over to him, he was shot ready and he was swishing home triples to spread the floor. I first saw this youngster and the Missouri Baptist Elite Camp during the summer and was impressed with his poise.
