Today, we’ll highlight five more prospects from New England that have recently announced their college plans for next season.
Nyakundi, one of New England’s top unsigned big men, ended his recruitment process when he announced that he’ll be attending Le Moyne College next year. A physical forward, Nyakundi does a good job of fighting to establish deep post position. When he catches in the scoring area, he’s hard to move and is particularly effective as a scorer due to his ability to catch everything thrown his way and his great footwork. He’s a threat as a roller, can finish above the rim, and has even shown signs of floor spacing ability. Defensively, he cleans up on the glass and does a good job of protecting the rim. He’ll be an interesting prospect to track as he makes his way to Le Moyne as he has a physical profile and skillset that should allow him to compete for minutes early on in his college career.

Eddie Chareas
Eddie Chareas
Chareas, a catalyst for Manchester Essex’s 19-1 regular season, recently announced that he will be attending the United States Coast Guard Academy. A physical, low-post forward, Chareas has dominated on the interior this winter and has turned himself into a nightly double-double threat. At 6’6″ and 220 pounds, he’s one of the more physically imposing big men in the MIAA’s Division 4. While he makes most of his impact in the post, he’s expanded his game to the point where he can make catch and shoot 3’s and is also a threat to attack closeouts off the bounce. Defensively, he moves well laterally and does a good job of controlling the defensive glass. He’s a quality pick-up for USCGA and should be able to carve out a nice role in the NEWMAC as a physical post presence with a fair amount of skill.
Malz, who was a coveted Division III recruit in New England, announced his college plans with his commitment to Wheaton College (MA). A versatile forward that has inside-out tools, Malz is already a high level rebounder and defender. He moves well enough laterally to guard in space on the perimeter and is a terrific post defender where he does a great job of walling up and forcing opponents to finish over length. Offensively, he’s already a terrific rim-runner and does a good job of scoring off of dump downs from driving guards. He’s a willing ball mover that shows signs of future floor spacing ability and could develop into a prototypical stretch-forward at the next level. With his combination of length, size, and skill, he should be able to make an immediate impact at Wheaton and over time, has a chance to be one of the better forwards in the NEWMAC.
Kelly, who came to New England for his post-graduate year from Tennessee, will plays his college basketball in Pennsylvania when he attends Ursinus College. A big guard that can play on or off the ball, Kelly has had some impressive, stat-stuffing performances this winter for Bridgton Academy. A high level shooter from the perimeter, he’s impressed with his ability to get downhill off the bounce making plays for both himself and others. He shows good floor vision and decision making instincts, which suggests the ability to function as a primary ball-handler at the next level. With his size and physicality, he can guard multiple positions and does a nice job of rebounding in space. Coming off of a post-grad year in one of the country’s top PG leagues, Kelly should be able to carve out an immediate role at Ursinus in what is a very competitive and high level Centennial Conference.
