Here we’ll highlight four of the most recent prospects to come off the board in New England.
DeJongh came off the board when he announced that he’ll be attending the United States Naval Academy. A heady lead guard that makes great decisions with the basketball in screen-and-roll situations, DeJongh plays with great pace and feel on the offensive end of the floor. He’s a capable scorer who has a depth of finishing moves around the rim, including the ability to make floaters with either hand. Defensively, he’s a solid on-ball defender that does a great job of staying in front of the ball and keeping opposing dribblers out of the paint. He’s progressed as much as any lead guard in New England this year and should be able to carve out a roll at the Naval Academy with his IQ and intangibles.
Highlights
Luke Montejo
Luke Montejo
Montejo made his college plans official when he pledge his commitment to New England College. A versatile forward, Montejo is a true inside-out scoring threat. He’s comfortable scoring on the block and does a good job as a rim-runner in transition, but is most threatening as a pick-and-pop threat where he’s a consistent shooter from the perimeter. He moves well for his size, both laterally and vertically, allowing him to defend on the perimeter and be disruptive in the post with his length. He’s the type of prospect that should be able to make an immediate impact in GNAC as a versatile big man who can contribute on both ends of the floor.
Michalski finalized his college plans recently with a commitment to Assumption University. A true, modern-day, stretch four, Michalski is a nightly double-double threat that has shown signs making plays out of the post and off the bounce with his passing. He’s a capable three-point shooter that makes good reads when attacking close-outs, both as a scorer and facilitator. He’s an aggressive rebounder on both ends of the floor, utilizing his frame and agility to carve our space and rebounder both in and out of his area. Michalski fits the mold of a typical Northeast-10 big as a prospect that’s both versatile and skilled who can make a difference on both ends of the floor.
Zyon Lord
Zyon Lord
Lord, a New York native, will head home next year when he attends Utica College. A good athlete on the wing, Lord thrives in transition where he is an aggressive rim-finisher that’s capable of finishing through contact and drawing fouls. As a ball-hanlder, he does a good job of getting into the paint, utilizing change of pace and direction. He’s a legitimate threat as an outside shooter with deep range on his jumper in catch and shoot situations. He should be a multi-positional defender at the next level capable of guarding both on the perimeter and in the post. A solid get for Utica, Lord projects as an impact two-way recruit who could find his way into the rotation as soon as his first year on campus.
