A.J. Bender A.J. Bender 6'4" | CG Lake Mills | 2025 State WI – 2025 – G – Lake Mills
Bender appears to have hit the next level. Adding to his arsenal since last summer, Bender has added a dynamic mid-range game that really got him going in the first half. Bender scored the first 15 points for Lake Mills and finished with 31 for the game, setting the school’s all-time career scoring record. Bender has also been a great athlete, explosive leaper, and high-IQ guard. With as much attention as he gets in high school, adding a face-up game in the 16-18 foot area has been huge as it eliminates the pressure and amount of double teams opponents can throw at him. Now a three-level scorer, Bender is shooting the ball equally well off the catch or off the dribble and uses his 6-foot-3 frame to take guards down to the block and score over the top. Also loved that throughout the 31-point performance, Bender really didn’t play outside himself or the offense. He was entitled to some heat checks, but really just kept attacking, getting high quality looks, and if Edgerton sent multiple bodies at him, Bender made the right play with the ball.
Jack Fox Jack Fox 6'1" | SG Edgerton | 2025 State WI – 2025 – SG – Edgerton
Fox is a very crafty scorer who excelled after he picked up his dribble in the paint. The junior guard is very good at making defenders think he’s stuck and then pivoting his man and finding an angle to the hoop. Whether it was getting defenders off their feet, maneuvering with the dribble through traffic, or using tough angles and touch, Fox just put a ton of pressure on Lake Mills and converted some really difficult attempts. Averaging around nine points per game this season, Fox is starting to turn things up as of late. He’s had three double-figuring scoring efforts in Edgerton’s last six games, including a pair of 16-point performances. Fox certainly put himself on our radar with Tuesday’s performance.
Olin Zellmer Olin Zellmer 6'0" | PG Edgerton | 2025 State WI – 2025 – G – Edgerton
It looked like Lake Mills had absorbed all of Edgerton’s punches and would take control in the second half at home…and then Zellmer got hot. Scoring a team-high 28 points, Zellmer was big time from 3-point range to lift Edgerton to a huge road win. The junior guard just would not cool off. Even when Lake Mills started pushing him further and further off the arc, Zellmer showed his in-the-gym range and buried triple after triple. Zellmer also got to the foul line on Edgerton’s final offensive possession and hit the game-winning free throws. A guard that plays with a lot of confidence and swagger, once Fox got himself going you could see his teammates and the road crowd just feed off that energy. In addition to his 3-point shooting, Zelmer had two really good takes at the rim as well, converting against a bigger, more athletic guard, including a 3-point play the old-fashioned way in the second half
Preston Schaffner Preston Schaffner 6'3" | SG Edgerton | 2024 State WI – 2024 – SG – Edgerton
Getting the Crimson settled in on the road, it was Schaffner who sparked their early offensive outburst. The senior guard scored 15 of his 18 points in the first half and got really hot late in the opening period. Hitting four triples and five in the game, Schaffner took advantage of poor close outs. If defenders didn’t crowd him or put a hand up, Schaffner calmly rose up and knocked it down. Edgerton didn’t appear to run a lot of offense for Schaffner. He was able to find his own space on the perimeter via dribble handoffs or some simple off-ball screens in motion sets. Think you can probably credit Schaffner for some of the big games his teammates had as well, because Lake Mills didn’t want to put too much effort into guarding him until they had to.
Highlights
Tyler Wollin Tyler Wollin 6'4" | SF Lake Mills | 2027 State WI – 2027 – F – Lake Mills
Really like Wollin’s game and the different things he can do on the basketball floor. The freshman forward had a terrific second half and scored two key buckets late, one to tie and one to give Lake Mills the lead in the closing seconds. At 6-foot-4, Wollin handles the ball very well. He’s got some point forward potential with his ability to take defenders off the dribble. A physically mature and strong kid, you don’t see many freshmen built like Wollin, who’s clearly dedicated to the weight room. A multi-dimensional prospect, Wollin can take advantage of whatever matchup he is — spacing the floor from 3-point range or taking smaller guys down in the post. Wollin finished with 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
