Feb 5-8: Senior Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This week I viewed 5 games with 4 varsity and one JV. On Monday I watched the&nbsp;<strong>Carl Hayden Falcons&nbsp;</strong>defeat<strong>&nbsp;Camelback Spartans 72-56.&nbsp;</strong>Tuesday I watched&nbsp;<strong>McClintock Chargers</strong>&nbsp;defeat<strong>&nbsp;Phoenix Christian Cougars 61-37</strong>. Wednesday I watched&nbsp;<strong>Dobson Mustangs&nbsp;</strong>defeat&nbsp;<strong>Red Mountain Mountain Lions 49-28&nbsp;</strong>and finally Thursday I watched<strong>&nbsp;Millennium Tigers&nbsp;</strong>defeat<strong>&nbsp;Desert Mountain Wolves 65-52.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here were the Senior Standouts from the week</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1293439' first='Sabien' last='Cain'] Millennium&nbsp;(Pictured)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A thicker framed combo guard is slowly becoming their top shooter. He made another four deep ones off the catch and he can get to the rim. He is a very good up the court passer to cutting teammates and a fantastic rebounder for his size.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1231502' first='Bryce' last='Anderson'] Phoenix Christian&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>An athletic wing forward can shoot it and he sprinkles in his athleticism to his game. He springs up quickly to dunk it and will rattle in threes off the catch. He will rebound high above the crowd and block shots in his area.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1220362' first='Donovan' last='Beard'] Dobson&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the stars on senior night was Beard. He dominated the final quarter and second half with his defense, facilitating and scoring. He is quick on the ball and in the lanes to grab the ball and will immediately find a teammate or thread it in. He scores on speed drives and loves the floaters. He also got hot from deep with a couple triples.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1483884' first='Taimari' last='Jones'] McClintock</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A big night for Jones. He had nearly a double with points and rebounds. He collects boards out of his area snatching it at its highest point. He scores a variety of ways with alley oops, catch threes, rip thrus to the basket, jump hook shots and turn around jumpers from mid-range. He was a menace on defense with altering or blocking shots, stealing the ball plus close out to shooters quickly. Stock up! Local Jucos should be looking his way shortly. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2331682' first='Parker' last='Walsh'] McClintock</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The toughness of the team and their top on-ball defender is Walsh. He will defend guards and even bigger forwards. He collects steals in bunches and holds his opponents under their average consistently. He will dive on the floor for the 50/50 ball and is a phenomenal rebounder for his size. He can hit the corner three and get to the basket.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1986878' first='Malachi' last='Johnson'] McClintock</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A tough wing forward rebounds well and scores closest to the basket. He will grab tough rebounds and score on put backs and has a shifty handle to dribble drive to score or get fouled.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1491232' first='Dru' last='Carter'] Carl Hayden&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The senior shined on senior night. He guided the Falcons flawlessly. He can score with catch threes and loves the floater game off of tough hesitation moves. He can euro down the lane and find a teammate. He consistently made the correct read over and over again. His on-ball defense led to points the other way.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2039501' first='Anthony' last='Bolton'] Dobson</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the top on-ball defenders of 6A showed why as he ripped pockets of his opponents to collect steals and scored on the other end with contested layups and get himself to the foul line. He moves the ball and plays an unselfish brand of ball. <strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1746663' first='Xavier' last='Sandoval'] Phoenix Christian</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A good sized combo guard plays some on and off the ball. He made a couple impressive passes up the court and can thread it into the post. He can get downhill with his size and even pull-up from the perimeter.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2123465' first='Conor' last='Doka'] Red Mountain</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A combo guard who can play on or off the ball. He can score from the perimeter with catch and shoot threes and from off the dribble. He is a sneaky good passer and plays with confidence. He changes speeds well and is crafty.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
