In Day 2 we saw Bentonville West get a strong lead in the 2nd half and be able to hold on to it for the win. We also saw what has been the best game of the tournament so far in NLR vs Northside. This was a close game the whole time with some wild calls towards the end that allowed Northside to attempt a game winner. Be on the look out for Day 3 tomorrow as there are more great games tonight!
Price is an athletic guard/forward who really has a solid game all around. He really takes care of the ball and can also be a dynamic attacker. Has a good 3pt shot that opens his game up. The sophomore wing was not afraid of the bright lights as he came into his first State Tournament game and led all scorers with 15 points. His quick 7 points out of the half was a much needed boost for Bentonville West. The lead Price got them was something Cabot just could not seem to come back from. Look for Price to have some big years ahead of him.
Derek Shepard
Derek Shepard
A true Point Guard. Shepard is a great floor general and getting his team into their actions while controlling the offense. He often looks to set teammates up but when looking to score he is dynamic. Has a really good step back 3pt shot that gives him space over taller defenders. When he gets to the paint he has a quick floater that he loves to go to. Against North Little Rock, Shepard’s calmness was the key to keeping his team in the game. The way he played down the stretch gave them a chance to win at the buzzer.
Marco Smith
Marco Smith
Marco Smith is a 3 level scoring forward. His length not only allows him to get to his spots and pull up over defenders but also allows him to get around his defender where he is great at attacking the rim. Smith can truly score from any level on the court. On defense he can guard 1-5 and has the ability to switch everything. His intensity and versatility on defense is a coaches dream. Smith allows your team to run a lot of different looks knowing he can be the anchor or even guard on the perimeter.
Griffin is a dynamic forward who can attack with his size but also has a great spot up midrange and 3pt. His solid base on his jumpshot allows him to get it off quick and confidently over contest. When his jumpshot is falling it really opens up his game to be able to attack downhill where he a strong finisher. Griffin’s energy and start to the 2nd quarter gave NLR a much needed boost. The 6’8 forward led his team on a 11-3 run that would give them cushion the rest of the game.
Withers is a smooth left handed score first guard. Is super deadly when he can get to his midrange game. The lefty has a ton of moves he can go to and even likes to get the ball in the post and work out of it. His physicality for a guard and not allowing the defense to speed him up by pressure makes it hard for the defense to force a mistake out of him. Withers had a huge 15 points to end the 1st half. The way he handled the late run by Northside and led his team offensively is the reason North Little Rock is advancing to the 2nd round of the tournament!
