. The physical 6-foot-2 guard went from swinging JV last season to leading the state in scoring at over 30 points per game and keeping the winning momentum going at Lincoln High School. Overby picked up college recruiting attention as a result and now's a committed recruit too, having made a verbal commitment to continue his basketball career at Willamette University.
"I went down to the Willamette camp and I really had a good time meeting all the players - there was much love," Overby said. "I would also say the Willamette coach (Mike Lenahan) was really nice and I really liked how they play. I was able to go down and take a visit, and he was always checking in so that really made my decision. It felt like it was like a real family already."
On the basketball floor, Overby felt the fit - both with the style of play as well as well as the floor itself. "I really like the campus and then the gym, I feel like it's really nice," Overby said. "I like the red floor - it looks kind of cool. Just pushing the ball, getting it up the floor quickly, getting to my spots and stuff - I like that."
Overby's story has been amazing this year, going from barely playing varsity last season on Lincoln's 6A third-place team to now showing he can get a bucket practically whenever he wants - he's notched 30 or more points 10 times and surpassed 40 three times so far this season. Behind his leadership, the Cardinals appear set for the post-season and while he's personally set now with college, Overby is never satisfied, continuing to work toward improving himself and his team.
"I'm just really trying to keep grinding, getting ready for college, and trying to evolve my game every day," Overby said. "I believe we can take it all the way if we just got to play better. We just gotta play stronger and smarter."
Our congratulations go out to Overby and his family on his decision.
