The players on this list are the best juniors from the class of 2025 from El Paso, Las Cruces, and Alamogordo, also known as the Borderland.
Cason Golding
Cason Golding
Injuries cut short what should have been a breakout junior season, but Golding is a player to watch for the remainder of 2024. He’s a prototypical shooting guard in that he is really effective moving and scoring without the ball. Golding is one of the best pure shooters in the Borderland because he can do it so many different ways. More specifically, he is one of the few prospects I have seen with true catch-and-shoot ability on movement threes.
9: Julian Pacheco
9: Julian Pacheco
An invaluable piece to one of the best teams in the state of Texas. Pacheco goes unnoticed because of the star talent on Chapin but he is one of the best point guards in El Paso and a player to watch for from the class of 2025. He provides solid outside scoring and reliable ball handling for the Huskies, but he works hard on the defensive end too. I think he is going to have a big senior season with Chapin graduating some key starters this season.
8: Ryu Nunez
8: Ryu Nunez
The best player on a 2-5A playoff team and an elite athlete for his position. Nunez stepped into the role of Del Valle’s best player with ease, showing he can be a leading scorer for a team that witnessed a lot of roster turnover at important positions. He’s one of the best mid-range jumper shooters I’ve scouted. Moreover, he is great at getting to his spots where he is most effective scoring. Nunez is a two-sport athlete, with basketball not being his primary focus all year long. That said, he still showed he is among the best in the class of 2025.
7: Derek Mendez
7: Derek Mendez
A high energy defender who likes to do the bulk of his work on the offensive end from the 3-point line. Mendez played a significant role in Eastlake winning 20 games for the first time as a 6A team. He’s a great point of attack defender who can guard on an island all game long. His energy seems relentless on the defensive end, but he also provided plenty of outside scoring for the Falcons this season.
6: Lenny Washington Lenny Washington 6'4" | SG Organ Mountain | 2025 State NM
6: Lenny Washington Lenny Washington 6'4" | SG Organ Mountain | 2025 State NM
The most athletic point guard in the Borderland who also has the ability to play and defend multiple positions. Washington has as much defensive upside as any prospect I have seen and can change games without scoring, which is rare to see at this level. He’s one of the best players on a elite New Mexico team and will be the top Las Cruces prospect by this time next year. He still has room to grow as an offensive player, but I believe he will have plenty of opportunities to show that on the AAU circuit this Summer.
5: Brody John
5: Brody John
A true three level scorer who can play with the best of them when he is at his best. John is a long wing with a dependable outside shot and a very consistent mid-range game. He really blossomed into El Paso High’s best player this season and showed he can be a top player on a playoff team. John is on the shortlist of top scorers in the Borderland as a junior and will undoubtedly be one of the top recruits the city has to offer in 2025.
4: Savion Jordan
4: Savion Jordan
Savion Jordan is the most under-the-radar prospect in the Borderland region. He might not have eye popping stats, nor does he get as much publicity as some of his teammates, but he is an elite El Paso prospect. Jordan is a tier one athlete with devastating finishing ability. He’s a blur out in transition and a true game changer on the defensive end when Chapin runs their full court press. With the Huskies graduating key players this season, look for Jordan to have a huge senior season.
3: Devin Falk-Ramirez Devin Falk-Ramirez 6'0" | PG Eastwood | 2025 TX
3: Devin Falk-Ramirez Devin Falk-Ramirez 6'0" | PG Eastwood | 2025 TX
An elite guard who can play anywhere in the backcourt if needed. Falk-Ramirez just wrapped up a stellar junior season, announcing himself as one of the best players in the Borderland region. The junior guard is a legitimate three level scorer who is can be deadly from the mid-range. Moreover, he is a great team player and pass first oriented guard who is responsible for a lot of shot creation. He is one of four players from the class of 2025 that could by number one on this list by this time next year.
2: Azaiah Thompson
2: Azaiah Thompson
A talented two-way wing who can take over a game offensively and defensively. Thompson is most known for his scoring ability, as he carried Ysleta all season on the offensive end. He does his best work from 14 feet and in, with a solid mid-range jumper and even better finishing skills. Thompson will have a chance to be the top prospect by this time next year if he keeps rounding out his offensive game. He can stand to keep improving his ball handling and 3-point shooting, but he is already one of the top players in El Paso as a junior.
1: Jayden Leverett Jayden Leverett 6'10" | C El Paso Chapin | 2025 State TX
1: Jayden Leverett Jayden Leverett 6'10" | C El Paso Chapin | 2025 State TX
As a long-term prospect, there is not a single player with higher upside. Leverett made huge strides in his junior year and has become a legitimate D1 prospect because of his ability to finish through contact. He can now handle the physicality of the high school game and be dominant on any given night. There is no player in El Paso who can effectively guard him for a full game. Plus, he is one of the best players on one of the best teams in the state of Texas.
