Continue ReadingLawrence Sanford Lawrence Sanford 6’2″ | CG Cherokee | 2025 #201 Nation AZ ‘s performance at the first ever Wood Elite Showdown was one for the books. Sanford went for 40 points, the third time he’s reached that mark this season. Lawrence has the total scoring package. He’s incredibly quick with his handle and can stop and pop in a split second. Sanford’s speed and athleticism in the open floor can turn fastbreaks into breakaway dunks. In addition to his 40 points, Sanford also posted 11 rebounds. He currently holds offers from South Florida, Kennesaw State, and Georgia State.
Highlights
Chase Tyler Chase Tyler 6’4″ | SG Hiram | 2024 State GA played a huge part in putting Wood Elite on the map in recent years so it was only right that he put on a show at the Wood Elite Showdown. Tyler finished with 31 points to give Hiram a 68-56 win in the primetime game. He had a number of tough finishes at the rim and drew a ton of fouls in the process. His impact on the defensive end is equally as important as what we provides scoring wise. Tyler is an extremely long athlete that can cover a ton of ground as a defender. He’ll be playing football at Duke next year with a preferred walk-on opportunity to play basketball as well.
Kennesaw Mountain hung around with South Paulding in the first half but Andrew Lavigne Andrew Lavigne 6’2″ | SG South Paulding | 2024 State GA caught fire in the 2nd quarter and never cooled off. He went for 30 points in the game, hitting tough shot after tough shot. Lavigne shoots it well from all over the floor and the elevation on his pull-up allows him to get his shot off in traffic. He’s got some sneaky athleticism too. Lavigne currently holds offers from Oglethorpe, Emory Oxford, Dean, and North Dakota State College of Sciences.
Ben Abernathy Ben Abernathy 6'5" | PF Adairsville | 2025 GA

Adairsville was faced with an uphill battle, playing against Lawrence Sanford Lawrence Sanford 6’2″ | CG Cherokee | 2025 #201 Nation AZ while missing Tre Winters Tre Winters 6’5″ | SG Adairsville | 2025 State GA . Ben Abernathy Ben Abernathy 6’5″ | PF Adairsville | 2025 GA did everything he could to keep Adairsville in it though. Abernathy finished with 26 points coming in a variety of ways. He’s a long 6’5 forward that can stretch the floor with his shooting ability. Abernathy also crashes the glass hard and came up with a handful of buckets off of putbacks. He’ll need to keep up the solid production as long as Winters is sidelined.
Evan Holcombe
Evan Holcombe
Horizon Christian won the first game of the day in convincing fashion. It was a well-rounded effort from Horizon but Evan Holcombe was my player of the game. Holcombe racked up the steals as the front man in Horizon’s full-court press, had several strong finishes in transition, and used his solid frame to draw a lot of fouls. He offers good size on the wing and rebounded it well on Saturday too. Holcombe finished with 18 points to lead all scorers.
