Calvin Blue
6’3 SG Calvin Blue is a key piece on both sides of the ball for a loaded Newman Smith team with several recruits in multiple classes. Today we’ll focus on his shooting because that’s where I see him really contributing to a program at the next level. He’s a confident shooter and doesn’t mind shooting from way back usually catching his defender off guard with the distance he’s firing from. He’s leads his district in made 3 pointers and can go on insane streaks once he gets cooking. I’ve witnessed him knock down 6 and 4 triples from deep on different offseason but even on a off night he is good for 2/3. Blue is a nice sized combo guard who offers length defensively and is also explosive in transition. He should be on your radar today.
6’2 2025 Landon Short Landon Short 6’1″ | CG Stony Point | 2025 TX had himself quite the holiday break as #2 Stony Point got some strong matchups and possible playoff previews. Landon was absolutely tough in every matchup showing some elite consistency programs at the next level should be looking for. Notably, he went for 5 triples in a matchup with #1 Plano East to keep Stony Point close. His shot is pro, very quick release that looks very Steph Curry like and I haven’t really seen another shooter in Texas that gets the ball out this quick. Landon seems to be a gamer and lives for these moments delivering time after time when needed. Make sure he’s high up on your radar he’ll be a steal for someone at the next level.
DJ Willis
DJ Willis
2024 PG DJ Willis has rose his stock as the year goes on. Not only with shooting beyond the arc but a sweet midrange pull up that’s impossible to guard when it’s falling. At 6’3 he’s got a good wingspan that allows him to shoot over defenders off the dribble or in catch and shoot situations and he uses both. He knocked down 4 triples last time I caught him and led his team with 25 points. In addition to being a shooter he adds a extra rebounder and has crazy bounce allowing him to block shots on the defensive side as well. DJ should be a nice addition for someone next year and fore sure a sleeper in the 2024 class.
2026 Jordan Vasquez Jordan Vasquez 6’2″ | PG Mesquite Horn | 2026 TX has been a sharp shooter since coming to the varsity level midseason freshman year. He showed several glimpses of the shooter he could be and the question for this year was if he could improve on that with defenses knowing he can light it up. The answer is yes, Jordan has been consistent from the arc averaging 2/3 a game but has several games with 4+ triples. His release is clean and quick, impossible to guard you just have to hope he’s a little off that day. What’s most impressive is his IQ and spacing, he’s able to plant himself in his shooting spot while teammates attack and knock it down weather a hand is in his face or not. Jordan is also a tough passer and crafty with his hands on the defensive side and in the trap. Only a 2026, he has the potential to end up as one of the states top shooter by senior year. Make sure he’s on your radar heading into the summer.
Highlights
Ryan Wilson
Ryan Wilson
5’10 2025 guard Ryan Wilson was impressive in a big district matchup against Grand Praire over the break. He knocked down 5 timely triples and just seemed to have a answer every time Grand Praire attempted to stretch their lead. He also was a hell of a defender, tipping loose balls, hustling down court and making things difficult for the opposing guards. His quick release from anywhere on the floor makes him a huge impact for Bowie and someone who should be on your radar heading into senior year as he’ll be forced to take on more scoring responsibility.
2026 Jacori Jones Jacori Jones 5’11” | CG Braswell | 2026 State TX is a smooth operator with the ball and already has elite shooting footwork that makes you forget your watching high school ball. He put on a solid shooting performance against Denton Guyer knocking down 4 triples and each one was absolutely tough. No space needed, he’ll create whatever he needs and splash it even when the defender plays perfect defense. With his confidence growing Jacori could be one of the best offensive weapons in the state by senior year. Make sure he’s on your radar now.
