The box office athlete has been incredible this past week, averaging 21 points on 58% shooting. This goes along with 8 assists, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals per game. There are few opponents in the state capable of matching up with the guard, given his immediate acceleration and lofty production. At 11-8, Rio Rancho has been off to a terrific start, bringing a wide variety of productive backcourt options.
Averaging 18 points per game through his last two performances, Adams’ two-way impact has led this group to a top-10 seed in the state. Already an active three level scorer, there are few prospects in this region who are as refined along the perimeter as this guard.
Isaiah Brown
Isaiah Brown
Although in 8th grade, Brown has come up with some eye opening performances throughout this season. Averaging 14.5 points this past week, the guard is already a lights out shooter from beyond the arc. For Sandia to be this dominant with two 8th grade contributors is simply incredible. This group currently stands at 11-8, one of the top 5A programs in the state, continuing to be competitive against a very tough schedule.
Pena showed up against 20-4 Cleveland, posting 26 points and 6 assists. His tight handle opens up the rest of the floor for himself and teammates, complemented by shotmaking abilities from anywhere on the floor. Few lead guards in the state bring his well rounded impact.
In a narrow 65-60 victory over Albuquerque Academy, Chavez posted 27 points and 7 steals while contributing 11 of 16 from the field. His ability to change speeds while handling the rock makes him that much tougher to handle at the point of attack. They bring limitless energy, active getting into passing lanes or poking the ball away from an opponent at the point of attack.
Highlights
Estrada recently posted 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals against Grants and 30 points versus Los Alamos. They are a strong wing who matches up best 1-3, effective walling off the lane due to their quick instincts and wide reach. Estrada contributed in a variety of areas, often getting quick jumpers off the catch while maneuvering through the halfcourt. Valencia is 11-8 on the season, in large part due to Estrada’s consistent near double double production.
Highlights
Arroyo produced 26 points, complemented by 6 free throws and 3 steals versus Carlsbad. He sought out plenty of drives through traffic, eager to initiate contact while attacking downhill. A notably confident shotmaker along the perimeter, there are few areas on the offensive end that Arroyo is not ready to score. Lovington currently stands at 12-8 with Arroyo as the focal point on offense.
PJ Montano
PJ Montano
Putting up 19 points per game in his last two, the West Las Vegas guard constantly sought out driving lanes versus opponents. Steadily drawing fouls around the rim, Montano has been a consistent offensive presence all season, currently the focal point for 13-4 West Las Vegas.
