Most of these seniors have battled each other multiple times over their varsity careers and good bit of them have either eclipsed or nearing the 1,000 point mark in their careers. This group of uncommitted guards should garner the attention of coaches at smaller school should encourage them to take a serious look into all of them.
Laneric Gill
Laneric Gill
Laneric has, arguably, the best IQ of any PG in the Northeast GA region. The lefty can be very crafty with the ball and plays with a great deal of poise. Coaches, that want a true point guard and floor general, should take a look at how he commands the offense and serves as an extension of the coach on the court. He’s deceptively quick and understands how to get to get to the basket, absorb contact, finish at the rim, and get to the free throw line. He can go on runs, knocking down shot after shot from 3, and shoots a high percentage. He’s been a major addition to Clarke Central’s scoring output this season, averaging close to 18 points per game, in Georgia’s Class 5A. As he gets stronger, he will be able to put more pressure on defenders trying to slow him down.
Hampton Ford
Hampton Ford
Hampton is another left handed, true point guard that pushes that ball up the floor extremely well. His court vision allows him to find the open guy all while navigating the defense in transition. His strength allows him to get into the paint often, throughout the game, and create for himself and others. He has a high motor that allows him to dictate the pace of play, on offense, and slow down opposing guards with his defensive efforts. More and more he’s starting to finish around the rim with his right hand, which is making it tougher for defenses to anticipate how he finishes around the basket.
Vonte’s leadership at the guard position is one of the primary reasons his Monroe Area High School team is currently 12-2 on the season and ranked 5th in the state, in Georgia’s Class 3A. In just the last two games, he’s scored 29 and 28 points, respectively. He is a combo guard whose athletic speed and athletic ability allows him to get to his spots and get to the rim with ease. He’s typically one of the faster and quicker players on the court and runs the floor well. As he continues to improve on defensive output, he’ll see his stock rise even higher.
Landon is a combo guard that looks to score early and often. He has a quick burst, in his first step, that allows him to get downhill and get to the rim. In addition to having the ability to drive past defenders, he’s an true 3 level scorer that can get to his spots and pull for mid-range jumpers, and shots close to 40% from deep. Landon’s rebounding ability allows him to push the ball in transition and get his teammates involved early in offensive possessions.
Johnny Dickinson
Johnny Dickinson
Johnny is a combo guard that can score at a high clip. In one of his recent games, he scored 19 points, in just a 9 minute window, going 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. He’s has a quick first step and accelerates well which allows him to get to the rim often, throughout the course of the game. He’s able to create contact and gets to the free throw line often, where he’s shooting over 80%. Johnny plays defense with a lot of effort and leads the team in charges taken, also he’s been working to become a better playmaker, taking care of the ball and getting teammates involved. His leadership and dedication is helping him improve game by game.
