I’ve taken a page from our own Bret Swanson (Prep Hoops SC) and decided I’d do a wrap up type article with news and tidbits from the week behind.
News:
Parker Schramm Parker Schramm 6'1" | SG Williamstown | 2025 State WV received an offer from Alma College (D3) in Michigan. Morgantown native Brandon Staley is an Alma College assistant coach and spends a lot of time evaluating and recruiting WV. Schramm impressed several college coaches at last year’s state tournament and has continued to deliver this season.
Mikey Johnson Mikey Johnson 6'3" | SF Huntington | 2024 State WV had a monster showing at the CTC Invitational, starting with a 15 point, 13 rebound, 7 assist game vs Bluefield and followed that up with a 27 point, 14 rebound and 6 assist performance against Princeton on Saturday. Johnson is a dynamic athlete who’s finally getting a little recruiting traction with basketball according to BlueChips Nation.
Caleb Thomas Caleb Thomas 6'6" | PF Spring Mills | 2025 State WV has been putting up huge numbers and dazzling performances thus far is not only getting a lot of recruiting attention but starting to get some D1 interest. At least two schools are showing immediate interest according to BlueChips Nation.
A player that is quietly becoming one of the state’s more notable and recruitable players is Hedgesville’s Xavier Kirk Xavier Kirk 6'2" | CG Hedgesville | 2025 State WV . Kirk an athletic and quick guard has accepted the challenge of guarding each opponent’s best player head on and delivered holding several players to single digits in a game or in second halves. Kirk has quickly become known as an efficient and effective two-way guard and has a D2 projection at the moment per BlueChips Nation.
Midland Trail is off to one of their best starts in school history, competing in WV AAA. Highlighting this past week’s games are MT’s top producers below.
Eli Campbell Eli Campbell 6'0" | CG Midland Trail | 2024 State WV (C/o 24) Greater Beckley stats: 16 pts, 3 assists, 2 rebs Sissonville stats: 11 pts, 3 assists, 3 charges, 2 rebs Season Avg PG: 15 pts, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 charge AAU: Big Shots WV Reign Elite
Payton Bailes Payton Bailes 5'10" | PG Midland Trail | 2026 State WV (C/o 26) Greater Beckley stats: 17 pts, 4 rebs Sissonville stats: 12 pts, 2 rebs Season Avg PG: 13 pts, 3 rebs, 2 assists AAU: WV Hustle
Justin Cooper (C/o 24) Greater Beckley stats: 20 pts, 8 rebs, 1 assist Sissonville stats: 13 pts, 5 rebs, 3 assists AAU: New River Express
WV Middle School
Prep Hoops WV covers high school exclusively; however, we’d like to add a couple middle school notes. First recognition of a few players, Jacari Goode Jacari Goode 5'9" | PG St Albans | 2028 WV of Horace Mann Middle School in Charleston has posted multiple triple doubles. Goode has already been recognized by several publications and scouts as one of WV’s top 8th graders. Dominic Sprouse Dominic Sprouse 5'9" | SG George Washington | 2028 WV of John Adams Middle also in Charleston has also had multiple big scoring games with Sprouse being a sharpshooter from downtown and averaging 17 points per contest. Noah Hood Noah Hood 6'5" | C Tyler Consolidated | 2028 WV of Tyler Consolidated Middle put up 40 vs River (OH) last week, one shy of the school record.
Most importantly, we’ve received word that WV will soon be getting middle school coverage for the Prep Hoops NEXT site. Details of who will be leading that effort will be released soon.
Ethan Blackburn Ethan Blackburn 6’3″ | SG Cabell-Midland | 2025 State WV absolutely killed it at the CTC on Cabell Midlands opening game vs. Greenbrier East posting 30 points and 10 rebounds. He followed that with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists on the second contest.
Peyton Brown Peyton Brown 6’1″ | CG St Albans | 2024 State WV posted a solid 12 points, 7 assist, 5 rebounds, 3 steal, 1 block statline vs Riverside this past week. Brown who’s become known for showtime dunk videos has developed into a really solid guard and improved every game playing with max energy and effort. Brown is a recent Greensboro College committ and has been playing through injury according to coaches.
Carson O’Dell Carson O’Dell 6’1″ | CG Hurricane | 2026 State WV was hot from downtown vs. Parkersburg High School last week pouring in 35 points including 7 three pointers.
MJ Patton MJ Patton 5’11” | PG Mercer Christian Academy | 2025 State WV continues his sensational play with a 19 point, 9 rebound and 5 assist performance against Liberty during the CTC Invitational including Player of the Game honors.
Highlights
Dylan Casto Dylan Casto 6’1″ | CG Sissonville | 2024 State WV spearheaded a huge victory over Midland Trail last week with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks while receiving Player of the Game honors. Casto who transferred in to Sissonville this fall has provided quite a bit of production for the Indians this season. Casto does a great job of balancing the floor and providing outside shooting to stretch a defense.
Leyton Toepfer Leyton Toepfer 6’1″ | CG Brooke | 2024 State WV led the Brooke Bruins to a huge win over Weir with 29 points. Toepfer is a crafty combo guard type player who seems to possess the skill to play point guard or shooting guard at the next level and has several ways to score at every level.

Nik Fleming
Nik Fleming erupted for 29 points vs cross county rival PikeView last week. Fleming who we first saw in Myrtle Beach this past summer is a nice combination of skill and toughness on the floor.
