NDP at Higley: JV Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Thursday January 4th I attended the 5A matchup of the <strong>Notre Dame Prep Saints </strong>traveling to Gilbert to take on the <strong>Higley Knights</strong>. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Before the varsity tipped off I checked out the junior varsity game.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>NDP JV won 61-57.</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here were the JV Standouts:</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1917869' first='Ethan' last='Sobik'] Notre Dame Prep (Pictured)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A cerebral five-man rebounds well in his area and keeps the ball high plus will block shots. He will dribble drive to score and he is an impressive passer for a big. He can step out and get hot and rattle in threes and has a nice free throw touch.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2314614' first='Powell' last='Perkins'] Notre Dame Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A good sized freshman actually plays in the paint. He rebounds and blocks shot with his size and length. He keeps the ball alive on the glass with his effort and handles the ball well for his size. He scores it mostly around the paint and shows upside for the future.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2314597' first='Aidan' last='Martinez'] Notre Dame Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A wing forward is very productive inside despite being undersized. He has a high motor to rebound and takes contact well. He has a football mentality as he is not afraid to get inside and fall away to score. He is also sneaky athletic and leaps up to corral a board.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2314598' first='Logan' last='Mclurg'] Notre Dame Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A combo guard who can fill it up. He can hit the catch three, get downhill and can take contact. The lefty has a quick burst to the lane and can score on reverse layups. He rebounds well for his size and can take it coast to coast. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1598348' first='Foday' last='Dumbuya'] Higley&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A pure PG is very fast and pushes the pace well. He is really good in the passing lanes and tough on the ball defensively. He can be a future ball hawk with his lateral quickness, long arms and speed. He loves using the floater game and has a quick second jump. He showed off some athleticism pinning a shot off the glass to block it.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2314595' first='Brock' last='Bascom'] Higley&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A tough point guard with a good motor. He will drive and kick it and he can slip it in to his teammates post players. He can score with the floater game and can turn the corner on his defender plus catch and shoot from the three.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2314596' first='Gunner' last='Fagrell'] Higley</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A combo guard handles it decently and scores from all levels. He has the drive and kick game and he is a sneaky good passer. He is a catch three point shooter and can get to the basket to score or get fouled. He comes off of curls and can rise up and manages to get to the FT line often. He also rebounds well for his size. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2314553' first='RJ' last='Shepard'] Higley</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A combo guard can shoot it from mid-range and in. He can crossover into a drive and throw it down. He is a very good rebounder with his stronger frame and bounce. He shows nice body control in the air to score and has a deceptive first step to get to the basket. He works well off the pick and roll game and throws the dime.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
