Markelle Massenburg
Massenburg had a great weekend as the Rams got two wins in their holiday tournament, improving game by game. He averaged over 21 PPG and 7 RPG, scoring a high of 25 in a close win over Franklin Academy in the 5th place game. He’s a proven slasher who likes to drive the ball in and around the paint, and also chips in with efforts on the glass. He’ll look to continue to ignite the Rams as their leading scorer headed into 2A/3A Big East conference play.
Houston gets the nod this week as his group took home fifth place in their holiday tournament, and exploded for a 39 point outburst including the game winner in their last game against Whitefield Academy. He knocked down 6 threes including the game winner, and continued to show why he is an elite scorer. He still averaged 4.7 APG over the three games as well, making him a capable playmaker and not someone who is going to just let the ball stick in his hands.
McClure exploded in a big way this weekend for Franklin, averaging a double double including a 42 point, 16 rebound outburst in a win over Polk County. He crashes the boards hard, both on defense and offense, and knows how to shoot it at multiple levels on the floor. He shot it much better than average on the weekend too, knocking down 11 threes combined after only making 10 in his first 8 games. He’s a name to watch from the western part of the state.
Powers continues to lead Davie to an undefeated start, which meant a holiday tournament championship for his group. He had 23 in the championship game on perfect shooting, as well as 22 in their first round contest. He’s a force on the offensive glass primarily when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands, but he’s an efficient scorer both on the block and around the perimeter. I like the way he’s figured out how to nail the perimeter jumper with precision and selectivity. Also a quality rim protector with his size and physicality.
Highlights
Fife continues to show why he’s considered an elite scorer in the 2025 class, scoring 25.3 PPG as Sanderson fell in the finals of the South Granville classic. He’s crafty and creative, knowing how to score inside and out with a variety of nice dribble moves and head fakes that look advanced. Also has shown progress at getting to the line and making defenders foul him. Has been a very good offensive rebounder despite his size, sticking his nose in and looking to make extra possessions out of nothing.
