Classic at Damien Forward Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>December 26th-28th I attended the prestigious&nbsp;<strong>Classic at Damien</strong>&nbsp;High School. The annual event hosts some of the best teams on the West Coast.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Basha, Sunnyslope, San Tan Charter and Ironwood took the trip to California and competed at a high level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here were some of the Forward standouts</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1555179' first='Darius' last='Wabbington'] Sunnyslope</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The big can face-up to the three, he has a floater game and will score on hook shots and mid-range jumpers off the dribble. He can fall away in the post and he will rebound in and out of his area. Some were calling him a young Brook Lopez type. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1490241' first='Elijah' last='Summers-Livingston'] Basha</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A live bodied forward who loves to sit in the dunkers spot and finish. He scores on lob dunks, offensive rebound put backs and hook shots around the basket. He is a shot blocker and rebounder and plays with high energy. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2311543' first='Jacob' last='Shimizu'] Bahsa</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A high motored wing forward who defends multiple positions and scores inside and out. He can fall away from his defender and score. He can shoot it from the perimeter and shows toughness on both ends of the court.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1680907' first='Josh' last='Dillard'] Ironwood</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The forward on the starting-five. He can score thru contact despite his leaner frame and is active on the glass to rebound. He can rip thru with either hand and is good off the pick and roll game.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1986797' first='Jase' last='Benjamin'] San Tan Charter</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A strong football frame is athletic and does a lot for the Roadrunners. He defends nearly every position on defense, he is a very good rebounder, boxes out bigger players, makes good passes and can shoot the three off the catch.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1064158' first='Christian' last='Warren'] Basha (Pictured)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The wing forward can get hot from the three off the catch when he is in rhythm. The team's glue guy will rebound, make a perfect pass and defend. He plays multiple positions on both ends of the court and handles it like a point forward. His senior leadership will be needed come playoff time. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1366582' first='Cullen' last='Schreiner'] Basha</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A bigger wing forward is a catch and shoot three point sniper. He comes off the bench and is always shot ready and moves without the ball. He will have a bigger role next year but he may be that key zone buster this season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
