However, with the help of the Prep Network, Mississippi high school hoopers will be positioned to shine like the rest of the nation. Let’s look at some of the elite that have been leading the way so far.
Eric Paymon Jr. 6’9 Power Forward Raymond High School
Eric has been a beast this season as we knew he would be for Coach Tony Tadlock and the Raymond Rangers. One thing I’ve noticed about this year, even more so than last year, is the improvement in his ball handling ability. He plays the game with a smoothness that comes with the fact that he’s more experienced. When he puts his back to the basket he’s virtually unstoppable in in the post. Paymon is a player that college scouts seem to enjoy.
Dorian McMillian 6’3″ Guard Pascagoula High School
Dorian is a ‘walking bucket’ for the Panthers. He is a combo guard who has the ability to run point on the next level. One thing we LOVE about Dorian is his ability to finish around the rim. He also is a monster to deal with in transition. We look forward to seeing McMillian and the Panthers in ‘The Big House’ at the end of the season.
Kameron Brown 6’3 Guard Port Gibson High School
Lets talk about a scoring machine! Brown can flat out put the ball in the hoop. Kam is really good at controlling the game and tempo when the ball is in his hands. Even though he’s a gifted scorer he also can pass. He dishes it out quickly and hard to his perimeter teammates. He led Port Gibson last year to the Elite 8 and he’s looking to do more this year.
Jeremiah “DJ” Davis 6’2 Guard Oxford High School
If we’re talking about a guard that can hustle we have to talk about DJ Davis. He looks like one of the more elite ball handlers in the state. In one-on-one situations he gives defenders fits with his change of direction and speed. Overall, DJ has a good mix of skills that will help him be a very dependable guard on the next level.
Tamarion Hoover 6’4″ Guard Yazoo City High School
The Jackson State commit is something special to see. Hoover has smooth moves on the court that enable him to find open opportunities near the basket. He’s an incredibly skilled scorer, capable of creating shots in various ways, utilizing a surprising burst to outpace defenders while handling the ball. He’s a blur in the open court. Defensively he’s a pest in passing lanes. He led his team to a state championship last year and looks to do it again this year.
