We took a trip to two games in the past couple weeks that really impressed which were Willis/Conroe and Kingwood Park/Pasadena..let’s look at some hoopers who really had their game shine through!!!
Bryce Bass
Bryce Bass
Bryce was really impressive to watch in the post during Willis’ away game against Conroe High School last week in what was a dominating win. Bass had really fundamental, great defense covering the leading scorer on Conroe, Gary Lewis Gary Lewis 6’4″ | SG College Park | 2024 State TX . Bryce was instrumental in his teams ability to dominate the boards, grabbing several on both ends over the opposition and dishing it back out to an open shooter. I coached Bryce in AAU a few years ago and it is impressive to watch how his game has developed into more of a well rounded aspect…he is much more vocal now and is disciplined on defense. He also showed great ability to beat his defender to the basket as well as spot up and knock down a jumper. Look for Bass to continue momentum as Willis looks to gain a hold on the district.
JaKendrick Clevenger
JaKendrick Clevenger
JaKendrick was a great playmaker and facilitator in Kingwood Park’s big win at home over the Pasadena Eagles. In a big offensive game for the Panthers, Clevenger dished out several assists showing his ability to find open teammates in the right spots on the floor. He also was able to use the pick and roll with his big man effectively, knowing when to pass the rock and when to shoot the open shot. Clevenger shows a lot of potential as he is only a 2026 and will continue this momentum into district play. The best part about watching JaKendrick’s game was that he was always motivated to rally his team on both ends of the court and he showed that he can facilitate and score, whichever his team needs at the time.
SJ Young
SJ Young
SJ was a crucial part of his team’s must win on the road against Conroe on Tuesday night. Young displays a versatile skillset and definitely made his case to be known as one of the absolute best 2026 guards in the city of Houston. He was able to lead the Wildcats to a dominating victory over the rival Tigers, completely taking over the game in all facets. SJ had several dunks finished with authority on the fastbreak, netted a couple of three pointers from long range, and racked up about 5-6 assists to teammates for easy buckets. I loved watching Young’s hustle and fight throughout the whole contest, despite being up by double digit points.
Davion Sanford
Davion Sanford
Davion was fun to watch in the Panther’s win over Pasadena at home in one of the primetime evening games a couple weeks ago. Sanford has vastly improved since I watched him during his junior year and has found new ways to help his team on both ends of the court to a greater extent, playing physical defense and also swinging and scoring the ball from all levels of the court. He was capable of beating the opposition either from behind the three point line or the mid range, as well as finishing several layups through contact at the basket. Sanford continues to show a lot of potential and will be someone for coaches to keep on the radar as the season continues.
