Continue ReadingYearly, Madison Prep plays host to one of the premier tournaments in Louisiana. The Rumble on the River brings teams from North and South to compete for three days at the legendary Baton Rouge prep school. This year was no different as some of the top players in the state, and others, squared off against one another. There were many standouts down during the three day extravaganza. In this Prep Hoops review, we will take a look at some of the top preps from the Rumble on the River.
Maurice Carson Maurice Carson 5'11" | PG Southwood | 2024 State LA (6’0″ | Southwood | 2024)
Cason had a little trouble finding the mark from the floor against Archbishop Hannan but redeemed himself against Madison Prep. He is the perfect compliment to Jeremiah Evans Jeremiah Evans 6'10" | C Southwood | 2024 State #249 Nation LA because he can shoot from distance and knows how to space the floor. Cason has improved his driving ability and can get to the rim and finish creatively. All of those things will help a Southwood team as they aim to be back-to-back district champs.
Josh Dodson (6’2″ | Woodlawn (S’port) | 2024)
The Knights went 1-1 during the Rumble on the River and Dodson was a big reason why they garnered the victory over East Ascension. Josh is an undersized post who knows how to carve out space in the paint and leaps quickly off the floor. Both of those attributes were key reasons why he scored 10 points in the comeback win. Dodson can guard five positions on a high school floor and is a very good rebounder for his size.
Chris Lindo Chris Lindo 6'6" | PF Madison Prep | 2025 State LA (6’7″ | Madison Prep | 2025)
Lindo was an important part of Madison Prep going 2-0 on the weekend with his offense and defense. Chris displayed the ability to make the mid-range jumper from free throw line in. He also scored with his back to the basket on some occasions as well. Lindo turned defense into offense with a couple of steals that gave him dunks on the opposite end. He performed these feats while guarding the best post players for Southwood and Liberty. Lindo has the potential to be a force in the paint this season and next.
Marquise McPipe Marquise McPipe 6'3" | SG Liberty | 2024 State LA (6’3″ | Liberty | 2024)
McPipe was the early inside force for Liberty in their Friday game against Madison Prep. He has a strong upper body and was able to take contact and finish at the rim several times in the first half. McPipe also showed that he was very good at running the floor and getting into position to finish at the rim. His athleticism was an attribute in their pressure defense as well. While Liberty did not come out on the winning end, McPipe displayed his versatility on the offensive and defensive end.
Anthony Thompson Anthony Thompson 6'4" | SG Archbishop Hannan | 2025 State LA (6’4″ | Archbishop Hannan | 2025)
Thompson had his full repertoire on full display in the Hannan wins versus Southwood and Catholic. He is a wiry and athletic wing who is very good from beyond the arc. Along with stretching the floor on offense, he showed that he is very good at defending as many as four positions on defense. His ability to effect offense and defense was also seen as he rebounded on the both ends of the floor. Thompson is as versatile as they come on the floor.
Jeremy Bargky Jeremy Bargky 6'4" | PG Lafayette Christian Academy | 2024 State LA (6’4″ | Lafayette Christian | 2024)
Bargky had a great Saturday at the Rumble on the River. What he displayed was an ability to be highly effective from the three in catch-and-shoot situations. Along with that, he ran lanes in the traditional fashion to get layups at the rim which is a lost art. On defense, he sacrificed his body taking charges. Bargky was willing to do whatever the team needed to win on Saturday and he did just that.
Tournament season continues with tournaments in places such as Walker, Louisiana and Monroe. Teams will be closing out their non-district schedules preparing for district play across the state.
