Continue ReadingSouth Dakota Class AA basketball has some high-quality talent and much depth compared to the other classes. Let’s look at how the notable prospects at the AA level are starting the season out. The focus is on the prospects that are playing well and either maintaining or raising their stock, or those that are simply playing great basketball and performing at a high level. The emerging prospects deserve a shout-out as well. We’ll make this a series and post about prospects I’ve actually seen live or on film. We may just regularly update our audience throughout the season on the stock’s of AA prospects, specifically.
I think we need to appreciate how good Mehrman is. Insanely skilled and poised as a big point guard. Handles the ball and maneuvers at a high level. One of the best and pure 3-point shooters in the state. Controlled, steady, elite passer. Not a twitchy athlete, but is quick offensively because of his tight handle on the ball. Committed to D2 University ofSioux Falls and an All-State player.
Talley’s stock is clearly on an upward trajectory. He’s scoring the ball and Mitchell is 4-0. Has the green light to take things into is own hands, and he’s delivering. Scored 22 points up against Rapid City Stevens.
Highlights
Mohr, who Prep Hoops Dakotas predicted to breakout, looks like a different player in a playmaker and go-to role. 18 points against Harrisburg on December 12th. A lefty 3-ball shooter that is showing some offensive pop to start the year.
Plack has been impressive, active, and impactful. He’s been rebounding on both ends, making offensive finishes. Giving high effort and energy, with some decent length and athleticism combination.
De Groot is superbly long at 6’5. Needs to grow into his body and spurt more. He’s only going to get better and his varsity role should expand throughout the season. Showed some confidence by trying to dunk over someone and he nearly did. Future All-State player
Potts is finally able to get the opportunity to show off his full offensive capabilities with a full workload and maximum opportunity. Scoring and hitting threes, with a 24-point outing versus Harrisburg.
Braeden has been looking good for 3-0 Harrisburg. A long guard that has a well-rounded skill set and deep range from three. He’s been consistently scoring the rock and being a 3-level scoring threat. Longer than I had thought.
