We watched tournament action from Bernie, Gideon and Oran last week. Here is a look at some of the top guards/wings that we saw last week from the SEMO area.
Casen Stephens Casen Stephens 6'3" | SF Neelyville | 2025 State MO (Neelyville): A 6’4″ 2025 guard who averaged more than 20 points a game at the Bernie Tournament. He is a very talented offensive player who can shoot the ball from downtown, but he also has the responsibility of being a playmaker and facilitator for his team. He also has the size to score effectively in the post and on the drive.
Dyson Watson (Kennett): A 6’0″ 2025 guard who has good quickness and plays with a lot of wiggle in his game. He has a nice in and out dribble move to break down defenders to get into the lane. He will drop it off for the assists or hit the short jumper. He can also knock down the open 3-pointer. He also threads the needle well with a nice pass off the dribble.
Connor Marcum (East Prairie): A 6’0″ 2025 point guard who led East Prairie to the championship of the Gideon Tournament with 17 points in the victory over Kennett in the finals. He has been a starter since his freshman year and his experience shows. He has a nice burst to break down defenders and he could deliver some excellent passes with either hand. He had a few nice no-look dimes through traffic. He also has some quick hands on defense and he used them to pick a few pockets in the open court.
Sammy Smith Sammy Smith 6'3" | SG Risco | 2025 State MO (Risco): A 6’3″ 2025 wing player who is one of the top Class 1 players in the SEMO area. He is an excellent athlete who can get a bucket at all three levels. He is also an unselfish player who will look for his teammates and get them buckets. He led Risco to a berth in the championship game at Bernie, a game in which they were leading until he fouled out late in the game, which enabled Puxico to take the lead and the victory.
Landen Burchard (Puxico): A 5’9″ 2026 guard who provides a spark off the bench with his instant offense. He has a good quickness and a nice feel for the game. He has a quick first step to get by defenders and he’s very effective in the mid-range with his jumper, in which he gets good elevation. He’s one of the team’s leading scorers coming off the bench.
Hunter Sanders (Richland Essex): A 5’10” 2025 point guard who displayed an excellent offensive bag in leading Richland to the championship game of the Oran Invitational Tournament. He scored 26 points in the championship game against Kelly. He is an potent shot-maker who can create his own offense off the dribble with a number of escape moves to get himself open. He’s quick and shifty with the ball and he can shoot it from 3-point distance.
Michael Dollins (Kelly): A 5’9 2024 guard who scored a game-high 21 points in the victory over Richland Essex in the championship game of the Oran Invitational Tournament. He’s an excellent playmaker who distributes the ball well, but he also drain the perimeter shot from well beyond the 3-point line. He’s quick and he moves the ball with good pace and he’ll get the ball to his bigs inside.
D’Shun Wilson D’Shun Wilson 6'0" | PG Kennett | 2025 State MO (Kennett): A 6’1″ 2025 guard who has good quickness and athleticism. He creates well off the dribble to get to the mid-range area and he can hit the open 3-point shot. He can play with good pace but he plays under control without trying to force the issue and turning the ball over.
