Carter Fortune Carter Fortune 6'2" | PG Southridge | 2024 State OR has clearly been a huge part of that success. The strong 6-foot-2 point guard has been there through thick and thin ever since his freshman year and going into his senior year, he did things a little differently in the summer to get ready for his final season of high school basketball.
“This offseason I didn’t play too much AAU,” Fortune said. “I did a lot of, you know, working on my body, work on my skills, just on my own and with some trainers. I definitely worked on my shot. One of my best skills is getting downhill and if I can get my shot better then it’s just going to open more downhill opportunities and create for my teammates.”
When you watch Fortune play, it’s clear his confidence in his outside shooting has continued to grow. Believe it or not he barely even took threes when he first entered high school but now instead of a deficiency in his game, it’s a strength. College coaches have noticed this growth. Fortune notes that he’s been hearing from a number of D-II and D-III schools and he currently holds a roster spot offer from George Fox.
“Coach Maco (Hamilton, we’ve been in touch a lot and he’s really cool – it’s a good program,” Fortune said. “I’m just looking to keep playing, keep getting more offers. I just want a good experience, not even just basketball, just like life in general. I want to make sure what’s a good fit for me and that fits my skills for the team that I’m going to go to.”
Fortune will play out this year before making any decisions and so far he’s off to a great start. He and the Skyhawks are really clicking, especially offensively, and Fortune is currently averaging a team-high 20.8 points per game. He’s certainly excited as the team approaches an appearance in the prestigious Les Schwab Invitational and then Metro League play.
“Big expectations this year,” Fortune said. “One of our biggest goals is to win Metro. Last year we had the opportunity – we came down to do a couple of possessions and we didn’t quite capitalize on it. But this year, we’re definitely looking to win that Metro title and make it to the state tournament this year for sure.”
Fortune currently ranks as the #24 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
