1. Volcano Vista - W 59-44 vs La Cueva

Volcano looked like the best team in the state on Thursday, continuing their winning by tearing away in the 4th quarter, winning by 15. [player_tooltip player_id='1176300' first='Kenyon' last='Aguino'] was dominant and will be one of the favorites to win GPOY once again.

2. Valencia - W 60-20 vs Deming

Valencia was in complete control of this game from the beginning, taking care of the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season. [player_tooltip player_id='1685516' first='Damian' last='Estrada'] showed out in his new leadership role and was a force on both sides of the ball.

3. Sandia - W 75-65 vs Cibola

It seemed like Sandia couldn't miss a shot in this contest, and they were able to force turnover after turnover on the defensive end. [player_tooltip player_id='2292960' first='Zaire' last='Ndyabagye'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1687823' first='Thomas' last='Adams'] combined for 37 points and 16 rebounds en route to a decisive win.

4. Eldorado - W 52-47 vs Carlsbad

Eldorado emerged victorious in this hard-fought battle, as they stayed composed in crunchtime and were clutch late in the game. [player_tooltip player_id='1679994' first='Josiah' last='Mitchell'] showed his athletic ability on both sides of the ball and came up clutch with his defensive effort and free throws in the end.

5. Carlsbad - L 47-52 vs Eldorado

Carlsbad almost mounted an impressive comeback against the Eagles in the 4th quarter, but ultimately fell short in the last minute. Nevertheless, [player_tooltip player_id='2293829' first='Kyran' last='Orgain'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2879038' first='Shane' last='Sullivan'] showed their ability to keep the Cavemen in games in crunch time.

6. La Cueva - L 44-59 vs Volcano Vista

The game was within 5 points going into the 4th quarter, though the Bear's efforts failed in the 4th quarter. They showed promise to be one of the premier teams in the state, however, with Cam Dyer dominating at both ends, and [player_tooltip player_id='2299996' first='Jojo' last='Sanchez'] putting his name on the map with his performance.

7. Cibola - L 65-75 vs Sandia

This game wasn't as close as the score suggests, but Cibola still showed flashes of potential as they still sport a young cast of talent. [player_tooltip player_id='1679997' first='Julian' last='Ortiz'] was the most consistent piece of this team on Wednesday, creating on offense in more than one way.

8. Deming - L 20-60 vs Valencia

Deming flat-out struggled in their season opener, getting tripled up by Valencia, and scoring only 8 points at halftime. [player_tooltip player_id='2284323' first='Charlie' last='Hofacket'] was one of the lone bright spots for the Wildcats, providing much-needed paint presence on both ends of the floor.
