Jacob Stellwagen (Montgomery County): The 6’2″ 2024 guard was the MVP of the Wildcats’ victory over SLUH after putting on one of the best shooting displays in the history of the Midwest Showdown Shootout. The sharpshooter made eight 3-pointers in nine attempts en route to scoring a game-high 27 points. He was equally effective at knocking down shots off the catch as he was creating jumpers off the dribble with escape moves that had defenders falling and the crowd buzzing. The transfer from Verona is a big addition to the MOCO’s lineup as it looks to make some noise in Class 3 this season.

Owen Walther (John Burroughs): The 6’3″ 2025 guard was the MVP of the game as the Bombers defeated Father Tolton 70-62. He scored 23 points and put on quite a shooting display as he made seven 3-pointers, which all came in the first half on seven attempts. He knocked down four consecutive triples in the first quarter as the Bombers sprinted out to an early advantage. He has continued to improve over the past season as he has grown three inches since his sophomore season. He can also make a move off the dribble when he needs to and he can make the good pass to an open teammate.

He had one near-highlight reel moment when he tried to dunk the ball on the Bombers two young bigs. It was an example of his explosive athleticism. As usual, he was at his best when he was getting into the lane and pulling up from the mid-range area. He elevates over players of any size with his jumper.

He played a big part in the Bombers quick start with a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter. He walked the fine line of being a playmaker and scoring threat very well throughout the game. Tai-Shaun Ewing (Ritenour): The 6’3″ 2025 guard earned game MVP honors after leading the Huskies to a victory over Madison (IL) in the opening game of the shootout. He scored a game-high 19 points. That athletic young wing is a creative bucket-getter and playmaker off the dribble. He is an effective slashing threat with the ability to make the 3-pointer. He has grown a couple of inches since his sophomore year and his overall game has also grown with his physical stature.
