There were many players that showed up looking either raise their stock or put their name on the map. Let’s take a look at some duos who led their team on Thursday in crunch time.

The duo of 2025 guard Jordan Buckner Jordan Buckner 6’0″ | PG South Houston | 2025 TX and 2027 post Xavier Muhammad Xavier Muhammad 6’5″ | PF South Houston | 2027 State TX was key in some of South Houston’s victories all weekend. These two players work together so well, especially in transition and isolation situations. Buckner is one of the more underrated point guards in Houston, given his IQ and his decision making with the ball on offense. Jordan can beat the defense by either running the pick and roll as the ballhandler, dishing to an open teammate for an easy assist, or shooting over the outstretched hands of the defender. Muhammad uses his size very well in the post and is very efficient at boxing out his matchup and coming down with several well executed rebounds. Given he is only a freshman, Xavier’s stock will do nothing but rise over the course of the season and he has settled into an important role in South Houston’s offense as a key piece. Look for these two to continue keeping up the chemistry and ride the wave of momentum heading into district play.

Shelton and Kohlman were two of the most dialed in teammates this weekend that I got a chance to watch. Their consistent high level play continued throughout the entire duration of the tourney and they ended up helping Bellaire capture the Lee Classic Championship. Dutton and Henderson start in the backcourt together and run the offense at a very efficient clip, showing they can hurt the defense all types of different ways. Dutton functions as the main playmaker of the two, always knowing where his teammates are on the floor at all times and bringing the ball up the court under pressure. I also enjoy watching Kohl’s patience and IQ on the defensive end, knowing when to press up on his opponent and when to play help defense, showing he is extremely competent in these situations. Shelton functioned as an unstoppable force this week, scoring from all three levels and making it look easy on both ends of the floor. Henderson is a big guard who is aware of the defense at all times and can score the basketball at any time whenever needed. His stock only continues to rise, placing himself at the top of 2025 class in the state. Not many guards can work as well in sync as these two in the Bellaire backcourt and if they continue producing at this rate, it could be scary for the competition.

Jason Obert Jason Obert 5’11” | PG Clear Lake | 2024 State TX and Jerrick Guidry Jerrick Guidry 6’2″ | PG Clear Lake | 2024 State TX were important components in Clear Lakes contest against Bellaire where they fell just short of victory, but were still impressive with their gameplay and leadership. Guidry functioned as the shooter of the two and was a complete sniper and marksman from three point land throughout the tourney, nailing several key shots from long range to keep his team always in the contest. Jerrick can also drive to the basket at a high clip and finish through contact, as well as being vocal on defense and possessing lateral quickness. Obert was the main playmaker of the two and notched several assists from teammates hitting shots as well as driving to the basket past his matchup with quickness and speed for several tough off balance layups. Jason showed aggressiveness in his pestering on ball defense, coming away with several transition buckets off steals and never hesitating to hit an open teammate ahead of the pack. It will be hard to imagine not having Clear Lake competing at a high level in their district with these two manning the backcourt.
