Franklin High School held its annual holiday tournament in West El Paso from December 28-30. The participants included Franklin (host), Coronado, Americas, El Dorado, Mountain View, Parkland, Del Valle, and Alamogordo High School. Below are the top performers from the Franklin Holiday Tournament.
Ethan Martinez
Ethan Martinez
It was a great weekend for Franklin High School and their star point guard Ethan Martinez led the way. The senior guard set the tone for the Cougars all tournament long against increasingly tougher competition. In the final against the 18-1 Americas team, Martinez’s effort was on full display. He was Franklin’s most reliable ball handler against a relentless defense and was up to the challenge defensively as well. There were numerous possessions where he guarded up positionally, fronting the post against Lareon Johnson, the Blazers 6-3 star forward. Franklin’s win over Americas was significant, in that it was the Trail Blazers first loss of the season against El Paso competition. The last time Americas lost to an El Paso team was February 14 of last season, which also happened to be against Franklin and Ethan Martinez.
Aiden Marquez

The Trail Blazers came up short over the weekend, but their star big man Aiden Marquez once again showed why he is one of the elite players in the Borderland. The senior center averaged 15.6 points per game for the tournament, with 15-points in the final against Franklin. Despite the loss, Americas still sits at the top of the district standings with tournament games not counting as district play. The Blazers will meet the Cougars again in district play on January 12 and February 13.
Andrew Serrano
Andrew Serrano
In the third-place game between Alamogordo and Del Valle an unexpected player stepped up and had an incredible performance. That player was Del Valle shooting guard Andrew Serrano. The junior dropped a career high 27-points, hitting seven 3-points, also a career high. The Conquistadors led for most of the game and by double digits at one point, thanks in large part to Serrano’s incredible shooting. Coming into the game, Serrano was Del Valle’s sixth leading scorer, which is bound to change after this game.

Alamogordo’s Damiran Smith Damiran Smith 6’2″ | SG Alamogordo | 2025 State NM was having a bad first half against in the Tigers third place game against the Del Valle Conquistadors. No shots were falling for the junior and his frustration was obvious. The Tigers were playing from behind against Del Valle for the first three quarters, even falling behind by 11-points heading into the fourth. Then Smith and the Tigers ratcheted their defense up to another level. Alamogordo outscored Del Valle 23-7 in the fourth quarter with Smith coming alive. He finished the game with 15-points and All-Tournament honors.
Mathew Saucedo
Mathew Saucedo
It was a tough weekend for Mountain View High School; three games and three losses. That said, it’s apparent this program has a talented prospect in the making named Mathew Saucedo. Just a sophomore, Saucedo is a speedy point guard who is not gun shy by any means. He scored 20 of his team’s 33 points in a consolation semifinal game against El Dorado hitting threes and floaters from all spots on the floor. Mountain View is still a program in its developmental stage, but they have a silver lining in Saucedo.
