Ashbrook High (7-0)
The Greenwave are unbeaten in Big South Conference play at 1-0 with a big meeting coming up against Kings Mountain High, another unbeaten in the standings. Ashbrook High will look to remain unbeaten behind a strong trio of juniors in Issac Byers Jr Issac Byers Jr 6'1" | PG Ashbrook | 2025 State NC , Jamari Smith Jamari Smith 6'1" | CG Ashbrook | 2025 NC and Jamarion Patton Jamarion Patton 6'3" | SF Ashbrook | 2025 NC . Byers leads the charge with 20.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 5.7 APG and 4.3 SPG. Smith is averaging 15.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG and 4.3 APG. Patton is averaging 9.9 PPG, 7.6 RPG and 1.3 BPG. Byers and Smith have both shown they can share the ball equally while Patton shores things up in the frontcourt with his length and athleticism. They’ll have their work cut out for them on Tuesday night against the Mountaineers.
Kings Mountain High (4-1)
The Mountaineers are 1-0 in Big South Conference action with a big matchup coming up against the Greenwave on Tuesday. Kings Mountain made quick work of Stuart W. Cramer on Friday night, 82-45, behind an all-around team effort. Freshman Caleb Nixon Caleb Nixon 6'3" | SG Kings Mountain | 2027 State NC and sophomore Tucker Robinette Tucker Robinette 5'8" | CG Kings Mountain | 2026 State NC finished with 12 points apiece while Jordan Floyd and J’myun Huskey finished with 10 points apiece. Sophomore Bradley Floyd Bradley Floyd 6'5" | CG Kings Mountain | 2026 State NC finished with eight points, six assists and four rebounds. Floyd leads the way for the Mountaineers with 16.6 PPG but they’ll need another all-around effort to defeat Ashbrook and their strong cast of players. Nixon is behind Floyd with 12.2 PPG as well. They’ll be a young bunch to keep an eye on as January approaches and Tuesday night’s game will certainly be on the PH radar.
Crest High (1-1)
The Chargers are another young bunch headlined this season by sophomores D’various Surratt D’various Surratt 6'0" | CG Crest | 2026 NC , Cal Pass Jr Cal Pass Jr 6'3" | CG Crest | 2026 NC ., King Rhodes King Rhodes 6'4" | SF Crest | 2026 State NC and Lyrik Pettis Lyrik Pettis 6'1" | PG Crest | 2026 NC . Two games into the season and Surratt, Pass and Rhodes are all averaging double figures in scoring and surging following their 81-64 victory over Forestview to kick off Big South Conference play. Rhodes led the way with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Surratt had 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals and Pass put together 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Pettis finished with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists. They’re a young group that’s shown they can do a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor already. Consider them a dark horse in the conference race.
