Heading into their junior year, we have a lot of movement and new additions to this group. However, there will always be omissions and debates regarding placement among the rankings.
Here’s a look at part one of the guard rankings, looking at some of the best point and combo guards in the rankings.
25) Daron Moore | 6’1” PG | LC Bird (#73 Overall)
Moore comes to LC Bird from Huguenot where he was a standout the last few seasons, and he is part of a talented junior group that will surprise a lot of teams this year. He’s a shifty guard who can breakdown defenders in isolation and pick-and-rolls, he can score it in the midrange and knock down shots from deep and he’s able to make plays for others too.
24) Will Hopkins Will Hopkins 6'1" | PG Hanover | 2025 State VA | 6’1” PG | Hanover (#71 Overall)
Hopkins was an All Region selection at Hanover last year, as he was one of the top scorers in the Richmond area and showcased a great overall skillset for the Hawks. He is a natural scorer with the ball in his hands as he can create space off the bounce and get into his shot, he has a great middle game with runners and floaters and he is an opportunistic defender with good anticipation that can shoot passing lanes.
23) Sol Vita Sol Vita 6'1" | PG South Lakes | 2025 State VA | 6’1” PG | South Lakes (#68 Overall)
Vita is going to be the floor general for this very talented South Lakes team that could be the favorites in Class 6 this year, and he’ll be in charge of keeping their talented scoring wings happy. He’s the consummate floor general as he touches the paint off the bounce and makes good reads, he’s a tough nosed defender and he picks his spots and makes shots from deep and in the midrange.
22) Aaron Elliot | 6’0” PG | Lake Taylor (#67 Overall)
Elliot is one of the more underrated players in the 757, as he’s been one of the top guards in Norfolk over the last few years and he simply gets the job done on both ends of the floor. He exudes toughness as he comes at you over and over again, he’s a very good defender both on the ball and in the help side and he has a knack for scoring the ball in different ways off the bounce.
21) Parker Cage Parker Cage 6'1" | PG Hayfield Secondary | 2025 State VA | 6’0” CG | Hayfield (#66 Overall)
Cage is one of the players who has waited his turn with Hayfield over the past few years, and he’ll be one of their top scorers this year if he plays the way he has this fall. The 6’0” combo guard is an assassin from deep with effortless range and the ability to get hot quickly, he’s a good help side defender who has good anticipation and he competes across the board for his team.
20) Jeremiah Gorham Jeremiah Gorham 6'0" | PG Highland | 2025 State VA | 5’9” PG | Highland School (#65 Overall)
Gorham sometimes gets forgotten on with the super talented junior class that Highland has, but he’s an x-factor for them with his dual threat ability to both score it and make plays for others. He’s shifty off the bounce with the ability to change speeds and directions, he scores it in bunches and can create shots for himself in different ways and he’s a competitor defensively who will guard you 94 feet
19) Kassidy Jackson Kassidy Jackson 5'9" | PG Green Run | 2025 State VA | 5’10” PG | Green Run (#63 Overall)
When you think of the prototypical 757 guard, you think of someone like Jackson who has a blend of speed, grit and skill that makes him a nightmare to have to play against. Jackson is dynamic in transition as he is an absolute blur in the open court, he can break down defenders off the bounce with his shifty handle and he’s a dog of a defender who can guard the length of the floor.
18) Sonny Bridges Sonny Bridges 5'10" | PG St. Christopher's | 2025 State VA | 5’10” PG | St. Chris (#61 Overall)
Bridges has been learning from VCU commit Brandon Jennings Brandon Jennings 6'4" | PG St. Christopher's | 2024 State VA over the past few years, and you can see it in his game as he has great instincts and continues to improve across the board. He’s a natural floor general with a great IQ who makes the right decisions, he makes plays defensively and turns defense into offense and he can move off the ball and knock down shots off the catch too.
17) Kenny Chicas Kenny Chicas 6'2" | PG Woodgrove | 2025 State VA | 6’2” PG | Woodgrove (#56 Overall)
Chicas is another floor general who benefits from having good size and patience, and he’s starting to become more of a threat as a scorer as well. He has a great IQ and plays with great pace as he can handle pressure and get them into their sets, he is a good defender both on the ball and in help side and he’s able to create shots for himself and others in isolation situations.
16) Jordan Hairston Jordan Hairston 6'0" | PG Miller | 2025 State VA | 6’0” PG | Miller School (#48 Overall)
Hairston is a great addition for a totally new look Miller team that went to the state championship last year, and he’ll be the guy that initiates the offense and sets the tone on both ends of the floor. He’s a one man press break who doesn’t get sped up and doesn’t try to do too much, he is a good defender with good anticipation and moves his feet well and when his team needs him to he can step up and make shots when left open.
