Heading into their senior year, we have a good understanding of this class and the depth of talent. However, there will always be omissions and debates regarding placement among the rankings.
Here’s a look at the top 5 shooting guards and small forwards in the rankings.
5) Teyvien Barbour Teyvien Barbour 6'5" | SG Patriot (VA) | 2024 State #298 Nation VA | 6’5” SG | Patriot (#12 Overall)
Barbour transferred to Patriot over the summer from Osbourn, and the Harvard commit’s addition immediately makes them the favorite for the Class 6 state championship after being one of the top teams in NOVA over the past few years. Barbour is one of the top shooters in the entire state, as he not only is consistent from deep but he’s able to knock down shots from well beyond the arc effortlessly. He moves extremely well off the ball to get open and sets his feet to let it go quickly, he can create space off the bounce to get his shot off and he has supreme confidence in his ability to knock it down from deep as well.
4) AJ Swinton AJ Swinton 6'6" | SF Bishop O'Connell (VA) | 2024 State #134 Nation VA | 6’7” SF | Bishop O’Connell (#11 Overall)
Swinton is one of the highest ceiling players in the rankings, as the Florida State commit has the mix of size and athleticism that could make him a pro one day. The 6’7” wing is a walking highlight with his ability to block shots and play well above the rim with authority and ease, and he brings a ton of energy to his team with his big plays on both ends. He’s an elite shot blocker who can climb the ladder and block shots of the biggest players on the floor, he runs the floor hard in transition and can handle it in transition as well and when he’s left open he can knock down shots from deep and in the midrange as well.
3) Micah Robinson | 6’6” SF | Oak Hill Academy (#5 Overall)
Robinson is the top returner for this Oak Hill squad as the Texas native made a name for himself in the NIBC last season and the nationally ranked wing chose TCU over a host of high major suitors this summer. Robinson is an all-around wing who produces across the board and stuffs the stat sheet in winning ways, whether it’s getting extra possessions on the offensive glass or making big shots when his team needs him to. He has great size to attack the rim and play through traffic and his size and athleticism allows him to play above the rim and makes him a good rebounder too. He can play and guard multiple positions with his versatility, he can score the ball efficiently in a number of different ways and he has a great motor allowing him to make the hustle plays as well.
2) Isaiah Abraham Isaiah Abraham 6'7" | SG Paul VI | 2024 State #62 Nation VA | 6’7” SG | Paul VI (#4 Overall)
Abraham is the type of player who may not put up the most impressive numbers since he plays on one of the most balanced and best teams in the country, but if the Providence commit played anywhere else things would be different, and the fact that he’s accepted and thrived in his role bolds well for him moving forward. He has prototypical size on the wing and is a big time athlete who is always looking for a highlight reel finish in transition. He’s a scrappy player who makes the hustle plays and has really developed into a lock down defender who can guard the other team’s best player regardless of position. He has good ball skills as a ball handler and a shooter, and he has shown steady improvement over the years while developing into a winner as well.
1_ Darren Harris Darren Harris 6'6" | SF Paul VI | 2024 State #59 Nation VA | 6’6” SF | Paul VI (#3 Overall)
Harris was an early commit to the loaded Duke 2024 recruiting class, and it’s hard to imagine him choosing any other school as he will walk in and fit the Blue Devils system perfectly from the get go. From the beginning of his high school career, it was obvious to see that he was a special type of shooter, showing effortless range and a quick release with great footwork on the move, but it’s the way that he’s rounded out his game that has been so impressive over the past few years. He has transformed his body over the past few years, and that has made him a more explosive finisher and a better defender as well. He has improved his ball handling and ability to score on the ball, he has a great IQ and terrific instincts on both ends of the floor and when he gets it going he’s able to take over games and has had some of the best shooting and scoring performances I’ve seen in a high school setting.
