I will focus on the players who had at least 120 shot attempts during last season and who’s roles will expand heading into their final prep season.
Stubblefield averaged 15.8 points last season while shooting 54% from the field and should be a focal point in the Warriors offense this year. He has an inside out game and can score at all three levels with efficiency. The Warriors will have exceptional guard play with CJ Mitchell CJ Mitchell 5’10” | PG Omaha Westside | 2024 State NE and Rickey Loftin Rickey Loftin 6’0″ | SG Westside | 2024 State NE healthy which will create space for Stubblefield to operate down low or pop out for wide open mid-range jumpers. Look for Stubblefield to emerge as a hot prospect by season in 2024.
A standout football player who transferred to Omaha Central for his senior year, Newsome brings physicality and toughness to the Eagles this fall. His strength and athleticism led him to averaging 13.1 points and nearly 8 rebounds per game for Omaha Benson last season, while shooting 51% from the field. Hustle and determination in the paint, along with good cuts to the basket, lead to second chance scoring opportunities for Newsome which he takes advantage of. Omaha Central’s revamped roster featuring Delaron Thomas and Devin Holmon Devin Holmon 6’5″ | PF Omaha Central | 2024 State NE will benefit strongly from the screens and big body passing target that Newsome will bring to the court.
Along with being a terrific perimeter defender, Wilkins is an X factor for the Dragons each year. Most possessions are run through Pokorski or Wilcoxson; however, Wilkins ability to slash through defenses, rebound and make plays with the ball in his hands makes in an invaluable asset to his team. Shooting 57% from the field last year, Wilkins displayed the ability to get to the basket, an efficient jump shot and ability to grind out rebounds for second chance scoring opportunities for the Dragons. Wilkins has good size, length and above average basketball IQ that any coach would love to have and develop. Wilkins is sparkplug type player and can do anything needed on the court for his team which will catch the eyes of scouts this year.
https://x.com/quinweather?s=21&t=6Trvp7Q9ugqlduc92IYZggrnWeatherholt became increasingly more important to Lincoln Northeast as the season progressed. On the season Weatherholt averaged 9.0 points per game on 51% shooting on the season., but closed out the year averaging 13 points on 54% shooting the last 4 games. During that 4-game span he connected on 5 three pointers, averaging 55% shooting from beyond the arc. There has been a ton of roster movement in Lincoln during the offseason and Weatherholt will strongly benefit from this movement and become a solid scoring option for Northeast. He has good defensive hands and can rebound well for a guard which will create opportunities for high percentage shots going to or near the rim. Look for Weatherholt to creep onto college radars this winter.
Minutes and offensive touches can be tough on Mustang teams with the talent they generate each year. Monie is an intelligent basketball player who makes the most of his time on the floor for Millard North. Monie is a solid perimeter defender who makes hustle plays. He can finish at the rim in multiple ways and be a knockdown shooter when left open. Last season he averaged 5.4 points on 51% shooting from the field for the Mustangs. He is the type of player that makes the smart play with or without the ball and creates the chance at a high percentage shot. Headsy, hustling players who do the little things and can score efficiently with their minutes are a commodity and Monie could be the key to a lot of rosters.
