Troy Invitational Standouts

A day after breaking the scoring record he put up 29 vs. McCluer. He's a tough player who loves to be a physical driver and make a lot of threes. He can put his shoulder into defenders and create and-ones or use speed to get them going downhill for his step back. Moore looks much more mature both with the ball and physically. He made 8 FTs in the contest. A three level scorer and a candidate for tournament MVP.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1430519' first='Tate' last='McCubbin'] (Battle)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>McCubbin did a nice job of letting the game come to him. He had 26 and was a force on the defensive end. His length covered up a lot of things for Howell's offense and he closed out possessions with rebounds. The marksman had multiple threes in the second half. McCubbin, a senior, does a little bit of everything on the floor. If Battle is able to win the event, he is sure to win tournament MVP.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2334930' first='Brandon' last='Rooks'] (Battle)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rooks is fitting in very nicely as a freshman. Had we not known his age watching, it would've been difficult to tell. A smooth young PG who has built chemistry with teammates. He's a very good jump shooter off the bounce and plays at a variety of paces on the ball. His floor vision stands out and he's making progress on the defensive end. Rooks is one of the brightest young talents out of Columbia.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1921418' first='Jeremiah' last='Poniewaz'] (Francis Howell)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Poniewaz carries a lot of the load on offense for Howell. The ball is in his hands and he initiates much of the scoring. He's a PG who has a strong build and a scoring mentality. His 20 points total kept Howell in the contest during the first half. His physical drives early in the 1st quarter set a tone and were a sign of what was to follow. Poniewaz continued to get downhill and display his nice touch of the glass. He'll be one of the best players in their conference this season.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
