Lynden has been the top team in the 2A class for the past 2 seasons, winning back to back state titles. The Lions are always a top team within the entire state and will again be a contender for the state title. Anthony Canales has been named the 2A state tournament MVP for the past 2 seasons and knows how to put the team on his back in big situations to lead his team to the victory. He creates his shot well, knowing how to attack the right way to get to his spots. Brant Heppner (’25 wing/big) is another player on the Lions team who will contribute in big ways. The Lions will be missing Kobe Baar (’23 guard) and Coston Parcher (’23 guard) but will rely more on Brady Elsner (’24 guard) and Weston VanDalen (’24 wing). Mark Morris made it all the way to the state title game last year with Brayden Olson (’24 guard), Malakai Gray (’24 guard), and Deacon Dietz (’23 guard) leading the charge. With only Dietz and Jase Wygant (’23 guard) being the only 2 players on the entire roster not coming back, the Monarchs will again be a top team.
As I said, the Lions and Monarchs are again going to be teams to watch throughout this season. I do think they will both go very deep into the state tournament with Canales and Olson being able to carry their teams. Anacortes will be a team who will compete with the top teams because of Davis Fogle (’25 guard), who is arguably the best player in the entire 2025 class. He has great length, creating his shots smoothly and being able to rise above defenders easily. He is an insane athlete as well, being able to dunk on almost anyone in the state. Pullman was a top team last season, having Dane Sykes (Wenatchee Valley College) and Jaedyn Brown (Idaho State) leading the team. They again will be a top team with Champ Powaukee (’25 guard) and Daniel Kwon (’25 guard) leading the Greyhounds this season. North Kitsap is a team who I think will go deep as well with Cade Orness (’24 guard) and Harry Davies (’24 guard) being able to carry the team far. They have shown that last year and with all but 3 players on the entire roster coming back, the Vikings are a team to keep an eye on.
Like last articles, I am going to make a prediction for each class on who I think will win the state championship. These are purely WAY TO EARLY predictions, but like I said, sometimes those are fun. My state champion prediction is Lynden Lions making history and becoming a state champion for the third straight year winning it over North Kitsap.
