AA basketball in Sioux Falls is the cream-of-the-crop with high-end and a wide depth of talent. This year there will be drastic changes and new-look rosters with many different players in the varsity fold. Let’s look at who’s the top prospects and who could emerge as major factors for their respective teams.
Top Prospects
2022-2023 Stats: 14.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.6 apg, 38 3FG%, 65 3 FGM
Schafer is an elite athlete with fluidity. Not a big guard, but he will be the go-to guy and playmaker for Lincoln. Cannot be left open from three because he will make you pay for it. He can create offense on his own with a dribble pull-up game as well. Moves well without the ball to free up his shot. Will be one of the top scorers in AA this year. I think he could hit 18-20 ppg, if things align. Defends at a high level with his rare movement and strong frame. Committed to University of Sioux Falls for football.
Brouwer is a big guard/wing that is fairly long with a built-up, lean muscular frame. He’s another guy that cannot be left open from deep and he does a lot of damage from there. Most of his attempts come from three. A versatile defender that can matchup in the post and defend on the perimeter. A good athlete that looks like a college player already.
Goff will need to be one of the top scorers in AA for Roosevelt to make some noise. He’s a next-level talent that honed his offensive skill set with Sanford Sports Academy this offseason. He’s primed and ready to shoulder a load.
Breakout Prospects
Wilson’s athleticism is on another level. Twitchy and explosive. Has a creative handle on the ball and likes to attack with different moves. Uses an effective spin move. Glides and can hang in the air with his impressive vertical. Rises up high for boards and will take it coast-to-coast. Looked to be tough to contain off the drive, with his skilled handle and athleticism/length. Uses his movement ability to pressure on the perimeter and stay in front of his matchup. Was aggressive late vs O’Gorman (JV) and finished with 13 points.
Mohr is a guy that Lincoln will need to step into a much larger role for his Senior season. A smooth lefty guard that can stroke the three. Will need to be more aggressive and expand his game some to create more on his own.
Jones can score the ball. He proved that at the Dakotas Top 250 event. A springy athlete that finds ways to put the ball in the hoop. A two-guard that handles the ball well enough to get to his scoring spots. Can create and make his 3-ball opportunities. Routinely gets far deep in the paint to make things happen for his team. Defends intensely and persistently. Absolutely hounds and suffocates his matchup. Moves well laterally to be able to do so.
Already a varsity starter a year ago, Kuol is poised to take things to another level from the wing spot. Extreme length at 6’3 with clearly a positive wingspan. Runs the floor and will defend. Great energy and movement all around.
Crowe should be thrusted into the starting “big” spot with Rock reclassifying to the 2023 class. He’s agile, long, and can shoot the rock. More skilled than you might realize and can put the ball on the floor some. Thin frame but is a good finisher at the hoop. Well-rounded player.
