Continue ReadingWe’ve ranked the top 50, now let’s examine how it breaks down regionally and what part of West Virginia they are from. Long debated amongst high school sports fanatics is where do the greatest players hail from. Well, we’ve broke it down into regions as follows: Southern/Coalfield, Huntington/Teays Valley, Charleston Metro, Ohio Valley, North Central/I-79 Corridor, Eastern Panhandle.
Clay Robertson Clay Robertson 6’2″ | SG Spring Valley | 2025 State WV Fast, furious and explosive could easily cover Robertson’s presence on the floor. He’s been on a tear since last school season transitioning Spring Valley from being just a football school to a force to be dealt with in their respective region. There are coaches and scouts from all levels that have watched and evaluated Robertson with most waiting patiently to see his progress in the next 12-18 months to decide where he might get offered. It’s going to be an interested but fun ride for Clay, but it doesn’t come without a target on your back when you’re one of the state’s best. We can’t wait to track this young prospect progress.
Maki Cary Maki Cary 5’10” | PG Teays Valley Christian | 2025 State WV embodies what a new age guard really is in this age of basketball. Forcing defenses to defend all five on the floor and put all attention his direction as he’s such a strong scorer and shooter. Cary likely projects out to be a point guard at the next level, but certainly fits the bill as a combo guard as well. If you like to watch or recruit a player that can force tempo and put constant pressure on defenses, this is your guy.
Landon Poniatowski Landon Poniatowski 6’5″ | C Nitro | 2025 State WV is somewhat of a recent discovery by many, flying under the radar, but thanks to Hudl that is no longer! LP has the base skill set to be a classic post player and big man but shows an expanded set of skills to facilitate in certain situations along with being a nice passer from the wing or high post. If he continues to develop defensively and adds a mid range jumper, his recruitable value will spike for sure.
Easton Pinkerton Easton Pinkerton 5’11” | PG Winfield HS | 2025 State WV will be a name we’ll start hearing about from Winfield High School. Natural floor leader whether it be from PG or SG, Pinkerton will defend multiple spots as well as facilitate and score on offense. A versatile and dynamic player who’s came back from injury and will be one of Winfield’s best players if not their top two-way player.
Ethan Blackburn Ethan Blackburn 6’3″ | SG Cabell-Midland | 2025 State WV is likely in store for a big year in the next five months. The slick scoring guard/wing from Cabell-Midland will certainly entertain the basketball faithful at the school predominantly known for football. Blackburn possesses the ball skills, scoring ability and size revered by college coaches and should be on their radar soon if not already.
Ashton Crouch Ashton Crouch 6’3″ | SG Nitro | 2025 State WV is yet another player in this class with tremendous skill and size for his position and just entering his junior year. Crouch could be in for a huge year as he presents a potential match up problem for nearly every team on their schedule. Look for Ashton to start getting his name much more well known as we continue to push his name out there.
Coleson Christus Coleson Christus 6’3″ | SG Cabell Midland | 2025 WV is likely to have a huge impact to Huntington High School’s season. I would go as far as to say that he’s their X factor, because with the veteran stars already on the roster, Christus presents a match up problem with his length and scoring ability, but also gives the Highlanders more length on defense. We believe he will have some big performances in the upcoming school season and will complement the returning scorers very well.
Nick Janey Nick Janey 6’6″ | PF Winfield | 2025 State WV is a player a lot of folks are waiting to see this season. The long athletic forward is certainly intriguing especially for college coaches looking for length and height that is so hard to find. Janey made a recent move to Poca High School to play this year and that in most opinions will put him in a spotlight especially defensively, knowing Poca’s style. We can’t wait to start tracking his future progress and highlights.
