Continue ReadingThe Indiana High School Basketball season is just around the corner and we at Prep Hoops Indiana will be pumping out a ton of previews right up until the opening tip. We have individually spotlighted 100+ schools across the state, gave out watch lists for each class, and will have several other previews in the coming days. This week, while Brandon Ramsey will be will be handling the big picture previews, I will be breaking down each class in both the north and south regions by highlighting the best Sectional, top players in the area, state title contenders, and other quick hitters you need to know within the class. For this one, we will breaking down the Class 2A (South).
Best Sectional: Sectional 46
Teams: Austin, Brownstown Central, Clarksville, Eastern (Perkin), Henryville, Providence, Southwestern (Hanover)
Reason: This might be one of the more hard-nosed Sectionals not only in Class 2A, but in the entire state. Here you have arguably the top two favorites to come out of Class 2A south in Brownstown and Providence likely having to go through one-another to get on track to make a run at state. Southwestern (Hanover) is another team in this Sectional to not sleep on because they bring back a solid, experienced core, as well, Obviously the big name in this Sectional is Purdue signee Jack Benter Jack Benter 6'4" | SG Brownstown Central | 2024 State #121 Nation IN who is looking to lead the once again very talented Brownstown team to a State Championship berth in his final high school season. Providence, on the other hand, is led by 2024 guard Noah Lovan Noah Lovan 6'3" | PG Providence | 2024 State IN and brings in one of the most aggressive teams overall in the entire state and is looking to get back to Indianapolis like they did a few years ago. Just the fact that you likely have the top two favorites in Class 2A alone makes Sectional 46 the best one down in 2A south.
Class 2A (North) State Title Contenders
Brownstown Central – Probably in many people’s eyes, Brownstown is the outright favorite to win Class 2A this year. The Braves fell just short versus Linton-Stockton in semi-state last season and will be looking to bounce back. Along with Jack Benter Jack Benter 6'4" | SG Brownstown Central | 2024 State #121 Nation IN , teammates Parker Hehman Parker Hehman 6'0" | PG Brownstown Central | 2024 IN , Colby Hall Colby Hall 6'6" | PF Brownstown Central | 2025 State IN , and Chace Coomer Chace Coomer 6'5" | SG Brownstown Central | 2025 State IN help make arguably the top starting unit in the class 2A level. Getting out of Sectional 46 will likely be the toughest part of a potential state title run.
Providence – Another team out of Sectional 46 that is looking to make a statement run this season is Providence and they certainly have the team to do so this year. The trio of Noah Lovan Noah Lovan 6'3" | PG Providence | 2024 State IN , Quentin Hesse, and Elijah Fuller-Tucker Elijah Fuller-Tucker 6'6" | PF Providence | 2026 State IN are one of the best groups in all of southern Indiana due to their scoring and defense. Speaking of defense, Providence will likely be the best defensive unit in all of 2A.
Park Tudor – The Panthers are a team in the greater Indianapolis area that has the talent and depth to make an extremely deep run in the post-season this year. Park Tudor will be led by mostly 2025 prospects and it all starts with lead guard Hudson Horvath Hudson Horvath 6'1" | PG Park Tudor | 2025 State IN , who is one of the most pure lead guards in the state. Throw in guys like Miles Wiley Miles Wiley 6'2" | PG Park Tudor | 2026 State IN , Kelin Mark Kelin Mark 6'2" | SG Park Tudor | 2025 State IN , Cal Bostic, and Kamon Washington Kamon Washington 6'2" | SG Park Tudor | 2024 State IN …it is an overall balanced team that will be tough to stop all season.
South Ripley – South Ripley is a team that is a bit of a wild card but have the talent to make a strong run. Having one of the top power forwards in the state in Cole Henry is a major advantage at the 2A level. Also have nice scoring and guard play around Henry to make more of a balanced attack this season. A team to keep an eye on all summer.
Parke Heritage – Before Brownstown lost Linton-Stockton, the Wolves were the first to do so in the first round of semi-state last season. Parke Hertiage won 19 games last season and bring back a solid core of players that can get them back where they left off last season. 2026 guard Treigh Schelsky Treigh Schelsky 6'0" | PG Parke Heritage | 2026 State IN will be looking to have yet another huge season for Parke Heritage and will be ‘the guy’ for them all season long.
