Bessette continues a trend of top VPA basketball players staying home to play for the University of Vermont. A rangy forward who has had a lot of success at Rice Memorial, Bessette’s pledge came a few weeks back and keeps one of Vermont’s most talent players in the state for another four years. At 6’8″ with the ability to knock down shots from behind the arc, Bessette figures to be a guy who could see the floor as a floor-stretching big in the America East.
The BC High and Rise Above product came off the board a few weeks back when he announced his pledge to Colby College. A 6’9″ forward, Civello fills a need in the frontcourt for the Mules and could play his way into the rotation as early as his freshman year. No stranger to success on the court, Civello had a solid spring and summer where he showcased an improved motor, advanced post game, and the ability to step out and knock down shots from the perimeter.

The heady guard from Malden Catholic officially announced his commitment (pending admission) last week and is off the board to Connecticut College. Moody has a winning background, playing for the two time defending MIAA Divsion II state champions, and hopes to bring that trait with him to Connecticut next fall. Moody is a worker, having gotten better each year, can play on or off the ball, and has a high basketball IQ.
O’Leary, one of the earlier commits of this cycle, made his commitment official (pending admission) when he announced he’ll play his college basketball at Bates College. With good positional size, O’Leary should be able to play and defend multiple positions in the NESCAC. Coming from a well-regarded high school program at Franklin, O’Leary is accustomed to winning and could carve out an early role at Bates when he arrives on campus.
Santos, one of the region’s top perimeter shooters, will spend his next four years in Connecticut when he attends Hartford University. The Taunton and BCRI product is a true three-level scorer and has thrived with the ball in his hands at both in high school and on the travel circuit. He should be able to make an immediate impact in the CCC when he joins the Hawks in 2024.
Tharpe will head to New York for college when he attends Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The rugged forward, a Vermont Dream Dozen member, popped at a few showcases this summer and subsequently saw his recruitment rise. A high academic product, Tharpe show a good understanding of how to play and is a terrific post passer with a handful of post moves that he can score off of.
