In a clash with Hendersonville High Saturday Lipscomb Academy truly showed why expectations are high. The Mustangs won 62-52.

Instead of running down the play-by-play, this piece will focus on themes that emerged within.

Living at the Line

[player_tooltip player_id='1572632' first='Cam' last='Blivens'] (Lipscomb Academy) played exceptionally against a scrappy team. Blivens kept his Mustangs galloping without turning the ball over much. Quite a few plays ended with Blivens standing at the free throw line, where he was and is excellent.

The stellar sophomore Blivens finished with 31 points, 7 rebounds, a 1 steal.

Scrapyard

To be blunt, Hendersonville does not have the talent of Lipscomb Academy. They needed to play with grit, and the guards certainly did.

Specifically, [player_tooltip player_id='2747408' first='Cooper' last='Jordan'] (Hendersonville) whacked and poked at the dribble(s). Jordan was handsy without fouling and a pest throughout the game.

Conner Roberts also did some disruptive things.

A Lot but Too Late

Hendersonville made an impressive charge during the last 4-5 minutes, and yet it was way to late. HHS was getting repeated defensive rebounds and effectively getting out on the run.

From the middle of the second quarter to the final horn Hendersonville 'won' 30-20. The hole was just too large to dig out.

Senior combo forward [player_tooltip player_id='1309474' first='Hudson' last='Gill'] is in a position to dominate this year. Graduated are several elite guards. Now it is Hudson. Unfortunately, Gill did not get the touches he needed to really establish.

He scored a nice layup in the second quarter.

Gill is more comfortable there than Sidney. IMO, Sidney is a future college 3, not a 4/5. He looks to be defending the blocks out of team necessity. 34-21 LA up late 2Q.

Myles Made it Happen

Read these two plays that encapsulated the diverse domination of [player_tooltip player_id='1273564' first='Myles' last='Sidney'].

1 > Myles got on the runway and tipped back a layup miss from his teammate just now. Myles is playing active yet efficient. Not forcing anything. I am really impressed and excited. 26-13 LA

2 > [player_tooltip player_id='1273564' first='Myles' last='Sidney'] lost it in a scramble. Recovered the loose ball near midcourt and instantly fired a sharp 30' pass to his teammate under the rim. and1. 24-10 Lipscomb Academy leads still early 2nd.
