Last season was extremely competitive within the conference, with a lot of teams staying close on wins/losses throughout the year. 4 teams were 1 game of winning the conference, with Anacortes being the conference champs with a 14-1 league record. Lynden, Lynden Christian, and Sehome all finishing with a 13-2 record. Mount Vernon (11-4) and Blaine (10-5) were other teams that finished with over 10 wins on the season.
This upcoming season there could be quite a bit of movement within the order of how teams finished. Some of the top teams have lost some of their key players and will need to see underclassman step up in big ways, Sehome and Blaine specifically. I expect Anacortes, Lynden, Lynden Christian, and Mount Vernon as the top teams again within the league, given they are returning some of the top players within the conference. Meridian is a team who I can see sneaking into the top 5 of the league.
I did an article predicting who would win the conference MVP and who would be voted first team but, I believe Davis Fogle will win the conference MVP, once again. He is a complete, well rounded player who scores the ball at a high rate and level. Anthony Canales of Lynden HS is another player who will carry his team on his back and help lead Lynden, who is always one of the top 2A teams in the state. Lynden Christian will have new faces on the court, but with 6’6″ wing Jeremiah Wright returning, the Lyncs will again be a top 1A team. Quinn Swanson is a player to watch on Mount Vernon, proving over the summer that he can score 30-40 points easily in a game.
There’s a couple early season games to keep an eye on, Mount Vernon taking on Lake Stevens on November 28th is one to watch for. Lynden Christian vs Kings on December 2nd is another game to watch for. This season will again, be a competitive one with in my eyes, Anacortes, Lynden, Lynden Christian, Mount Vernon, and Meridian finishing in the top 5.
