Which guards in Wisconsin's 2024 class are poised for a breakout winter season?

[player_tooltip player_id='1289115' first='Sam' last='Pfefferle'] -- PG -- Xavier

I thought that Pfefferle did plenty of impressive things this past spring and summer for All Wisconsin on the AAU circuit. With the ball in his hands, the Xavier point guard is dangerous is more than one way. First, he is skilled as a three-level scorer. Pfefferle does a nice job using his speed to attack downhill and finish at the rim. He also has a polished outside jumper. Pfefferle shines as a passer and facilitator, too. He rarely makes mistakes and typically makes good decisions in the flow of the offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1598988' first='Peyton' last='McKenna'] -- PG -- Germantown

McKenna has consistently proven himself to be one of the best guards in the state. The Germantown point guard is a lethal spot up shooter. When left open from beyond the arc, McKenna makes opposing defenses pay. I like what the PG brings to the table as a cutter and passer, too. McKenna's greatest skill is no doubt his shooting. But he is more than capable of impacting the game in several other areas.

[player_tooltip player_id='1139306' first='Carson' last='Awe'] -- SG -- Kaukauna

The Fox Valley Association has a history of producing top tier guards. Awe could be next in a long line of electric playmakers. First, as a scorer, Awe is versatile and skilled. He can make tough shots in the mid-range, finish at the rim, and step outside and knock down threes. As a playmaker, Awe is just as good. He can lead the break effectively and has a knack for location open teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='1144571' first='Grayson' last='Young'] -- SG -- Wisconsin Lutheran

This is Young's opportunity for a breakout. Due to Wisconsin Lutheran's stacked roster, the shooting guard hasn't gotten the chance to prove himself as a top tier guard. But now in his senior season, Young is ready to make an impact. A true two-way player, Young can get stops on one end and then get an isolation bucket on the other. College programs should keep an eye on the Wisconsin Lutheran standout this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1893314' first='Evan' last='Oleson'] -- SG -- St. Thomas More

I think that Oleson has potential to become an elite scorer this season. The St. Thomas More product has all of the necessary tools. He shoots it well from deep, is a crafty finisher around the rim, and is capable of scoring in isolation. After scoring 11.8 points per game as a junior, I am looking for the SG to take a major leap this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1203035' first='Quinn' last='Burns'] -- PG -- Westosha Central

Burns has been one of my favorite players in the state for a long time now. Even though he is undersized in just about every matchup, Burns still finds a way to compete. He makes deep threes, can slash and get downhill, and is also a solid playmaker.

[player_tooltip player_id='1260946' first='Drew' last='Tomashek'] -- PG -- Ashwaubenon

Tomashek is no doubt one of the more underrated prospects in Wisconsin. The Ashwaubenon point guard brings a lot of energy and effort on both ends. As an on ball defender, Tomashek has quick hands and feet, which he uses to stay in front of opposing ball handlers. On offense, Tomashek can make plays for others and knock down open shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='1142144' first='Moses' last='Long'] -- SG -- Wauwatosa West

Long has a chance to make major contributions for Wauwatosa West this season. The shooting guard brings good positional size and athleticism to the table. He rebounds, passes, and defends at a very high level. As a scorer, Long has shown a lot of potential. He can slash to the rim for easy layups when given the opportunity. Look out for Long to make a major impact this winter for Tosa West.

[player_tooltip player_id='1412223' first='Sawyer' last='Schipper'] -- SG -- Stoughton

Schipper is a do-it-all guy who keeps his team together on the floor. The Stoughton shooting guard is a tremendous defender, willing passer, and capable scorer. Although he may not be the flashiest guard in the state, you know that Schipper is always going to compete and make the right basketball play. Schipper is the type of player coaches fall in love with.
