I was lucky enough to catch Pleyer play last high school season before an injury sidelined him. We’ve heard all about his elite offensive abilities, but when I saw him play, it was his advanced defensive prowess that stood out the most. Pleyer showed that he could force turnovers and turn defense into offense on the other end.

Doumbouya has a chance to be a real difference maker on the defensive end of the floor. He can match up with power post players as well as athletic bigs. Doumbouya plays excellent vertical defense, going straight up and avoiding foul trouble. He’s athletic enough that he plays bigger than his height and can protect the rim.

Bryant has a very real chance to build his game around his defense on the wing. He’s an energy player that simply won’t let an opponent get a breather when he’s on the defensive end. Bryant can stop his man in a 1-on-1 situation and make some very athletic plays on D.
I’d be very surprised if Stevenson wasn’t a force on the defensive end this season. He was certainly a defensive playmaker last season. Stevenson is the type of player that’s more than willing to sacrifice his body for his team. When I watched him play, he stepped in and drew multiple charging calls.

Alderink could be one of the best defenders in the state this season. He has good defensive footwork, especially for his size. Alderink is what I’d call an ideal rim protector. He can protect the rim by challenging shots and blocking them as well. He moves laterally in the lane very well when on D.
