With a reputation for its competitive spirit and sportsmanship, the Southwest Slam brings together talented youth teams from across the Southwest. The morning highlighted several talented players. Here’s a look at the standout players from the morning.

Braylon Tillman
Braylon Tillman
Was surprised to find out that he was only 5’6 as he played much bigger than he’s listed. Tillman showed a good burst, defeating inital defenders, continuously breaking down defenses with straight line drives. He has a natural stroke, but was at his best when making plays off the bounce.

Nevaeh Lander
Have to give some love to Lander. Her handle was one of the nicest I saw. It wasn’t just her nifty right to left crossover, but she also was able to use the bounce to avoid double and triple teams, effortlessly splitting traps. Her ability to control the pace and get shots for teammates help lead her Arizona Elite squad to a win.

Miller was a clutch player. The wing came up with countless big shots including a late game three that proved to be the difference maker for his squad.

Ortega is a multi skilled guard. The first thing I noticed about him was how smoothly he got to the basket, using only a handful of dribbles to get to the rim. His downhill ability opened the floor for him and he was able to use the space to knock down open jumpers.

Edling was one of the more confident shooters I saw. The sniper showed a good stroke from three point land, even going as far as dribbling back behind the line before shooting. He was efficient, using a textbook stroke to make a high percentage of his open threes.
