Hosted at the state-of-the-art PHHacility, this event offers young athletes a platform to showcase their skills and passion for the game. With a reputation for its competitive spirit and sportsmanship, the Southwest Slam brings together talented youth teams from across the Southwest. There were several really talented young big men. Here’s a look at the top 2029 Fowards and Bigs.
Luke St Clair
Luke St Clair
I feel as if St Clair found his sweet spot during the weekend. He was money on little jumpers in the paint and short shots around the rim. The high IQ forward, has good instincts and did a good job of keeping the game simple, limiting turnovers and finishing plays.
Grey Dwyer
Grey Dwyer
Huge shout out to Grey’s sister for coming up with the best IG name I’ve heard in a while. That goes perfectly with Dwyer’s game as it’s one if the more unique ones. At heat he wants to put the ball on the ground and beat defenders off the bounce. His head however, understands that his strength is on the interior and he used it to gobble up rebounds in volume.
Maxi Lew
Maxi Lew
Lew is a faceup four man with the ability to get to the bucket. He has a herky jerky style that keeps defenders off balance, allowing him to skip by for layups. High IQ guy that made some good defensive reads.
Lolami Omole
Lolami Omole
Wasn’t able to get an exact height on Omole but he was the biggest player on the floor. His skill is still raw however he showed strong hands, rebounding and catching the ball in traffic. As he continues to develop look for him to be a player to keep on the radar.
Khalil Brown
Khalil Brown
Brown showed some skill and toughness. He played through nagging cramps literally leaving it all on the floor. He was a good slasher that was virtually unstoppable when slashing downhill. He seemed to always be first to the ball, showing blazing speed. He also was the architect of one of the best finishes I saw on the day, going up on one side, avoiding a defender before finishing with a reverse lay on the other side of the basket.
Josiah Williams
Josiah Williams
Williams was a member of the 14U all tournament team and the ocrhestrator of one of the best performances we saw. The wing did everything, using a consistent left to right fake to get downhill. He defended, coming up with tips and deflections and he used a good first and second jump to get putback buckets.
