Pine Lake Prep Open Gym – Standouts

This group is looking to be dangerous in 2A this year, and we saw a couple of their impressive players perform. He's long and has great size to play on the wing or even at the 4, and is very skilled as well. Shoots it really well from both spot up situations and off the bounce where he can make some really good plays to get to his pull up jumper. Competent passer which really comes from his good understanding of the game. Defense is still improving but has the tools to get there. He plays hard and with a high motor consistently, on both offense and defense. Solid shooter from the outside and has awareness on how to not clog the floor. Was really impressed on how he guarded the ball, guarding a taller guy like Magner but able to switch onto smaller guards and keep them in front of him. Springy and a good leaper who attacked the rim off the bounce and in transition well. He's got parking lot range and is not afraid to get to his spot and shoot the ball whenever he can. Quick and agile which means he's hard to stay with as he's constantly moving, and also knows how to put the ball on the floor in certain moments. Still needs to improve his playmaking abilities as a point guard but they are solid at the moment. He shot the ball well on open looks and didn't hunt too hard for his shot, but also attacked closeouts and made his presence felt around the rim. He's more of a crafty finesse finisher than a power one but made some tough layups at the hoop. His athletic tools and skill was obvious, making some difficult jumpers and plays around the rim that wowed me. Defensively he used his athleticism and strong frame to pressure the ball and poke it loose as well. The game is still fast for him now, as evidenced by some questionable turnovers or blow bys, but it's all part of the maturation process.
