The wing has quality size and impacts the game across the board. He is a lethal scorer with a plus shot from three either pulling up or off the catch with a quick lefty release. Toughness and athleticism play well off the bounce in the half court and transition. What is special about Sularski is even when he isn’t scoring he can still be a major impact guy. Plus passer at his size being able to kick for shooters, dump off to bigs, and be a connector on the offensive end. Gritty on the glass as he flies in for rebounds and has a quick second jump. Defensively he uses his length well to anticipate and get steals or come from the weakside for blocks. Complete player! We caught up with him over the weekend at the Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp to see where things stand with his game and recruitment heading into his sophomore campaign.
Sularski chatted with us about his fall as it has been busy with open gyms and trips to schools.
“It has been really good. The team is looking really good. We have a lot of good senior leadership and young players coming in. It has been going well for me with a lot of schools coming in and a lot of schools interested. Going on a lot of visits.”
Last year Sularski didn’t really see the floor on a team that finished second in the state. Now he will be part of a young core that will look to take Benet back to where they just were.
“Last year on the sophomore team I was the leader and now I am going to take that into being a varsity player. I looked up to those guys last year. I want to repeat it and go downstate.”
Where do things stand with recruiting?
“It is going really well. I have been on visits to Michigan State, Northwestern, and Illinois so far. I have three more with Indiana next week (October 21), Michigan State the following, and then Michigan. A lot of good visits.”
Currently Sularski holds six offers from Mizzou, Illinois, Purdue, Eastern Illinois, UIC, and Bryant. The star sophomore walked us through each of the schools he has visited this fall or has plans to check out.
Michigan State
“Talking with Coach Izzo was great. Coaching staff was awesome. Watching the practice. Reminded me of Benet some. Campus was great.”
Northwestern
“Coaches have seen me a lot. I like Coach Collins and how they play. Their practice was really intense. A lot of vocalizing.”
Illinois
“That is hometown for me. Coach Tim Anderson and Coach Underwood were really good talking with me and going to the football game.”
Michigan
“Juwan Howard said he didn’t see me play in person, but saw me on film and said I want this guy.”
Indiana
“A lot of connections with Benet and Indiana. A lot of people go there. I have built a relationship with their coaches.”
What will be important for Sularski in a program down the line?
“Main things are education for me. That is the #1 thing. Then how they can use me the best and go to my strengths.”
He told us what he believes that he can contribute to a program at the next level.
“I think I can bring a lot of things. I can bring shooting, intensity, and transition. Defense is huge for me. Ball handling and just being an impact player on offense and defense.”
