Now in the month of October with basketball season not far away, it’s the perfect time to take into account our grassroots observations from the summer and determine who some of the best players in each conference are going to be. We approach the end of the NCHSAA West region by taking a look at the Northwest Piedmont conference, led by Bishop McGuinness with some impressive individual prospects on display around the league. Check out our picks for the all conference team below.
Last Season Stats – 12.0 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 1.4 SPG
Ryker is a quickly developing lead guard at NCLA and should be primed for a nice jump this upcoming season. I really liked his game when I saw him at the PrepHoops NC Top 250 Expo, showcasing a nice creative touch with the ball in his hands either for teammates or for himself. Plus jump shooter from both off the bounce and around the perimeter on the catch. Smooth passing ability and good vision to find teammates while driving the ball.

Burleyson is a similar player to Ryker and should be in line for a big junior year. He’s comfortable playing both guard positions depending on the personnel, working as both an off ball threat or at times working at the point. Good shooter from all situations, but really likes to create from an isolation situation and score off the bounce. Comfortable getting to a pull up jumper or a layup from it.

Last Season Stats – 14.8 PPG, 4.3 APG, 48 3PM
Benitez is an under the radar athlete that really should have more attention going into his senior year. He’s a long and athletic prospect that uses it to his advantage, causing pressure defensively and scoring over people on offensive. A skilled shooter, he’s never rushed and gets the shots he wants on offense. Skilled pull-up jump shooter as well.
Last Season Stats – N/A
Campbell is a serious two way threat with impressive length and size for his position. He’s a real downhill threat on offense that attacks the rim with authority and physicality all night long. Very physical on the glass and around the basket at both ends. His perimeter game is still what needs to improve but still functional as of now. Defensively is a nightmare with his length and quickness, getting lots of balls poked free and actively disrupting passing lanes.

Barrett is a hybrid forward that is continuing to draw interest from coaches at all levels as he prepares for a big senior season at Bishop. He’s got a varied game on offense, playing primarily as a slasher and a mobile post prospect. However, he can step out to the mid-range and play from the high post or other varied areas of the court. His size and mobility make him important on defense as well as a rim protector and switchable forward who can guard out on the perimeter as well as inside.
