REDONDO BEACH — Redondo Union head coach Reggie Morris, Jr. and Southern California Academy head coach Julius von Hanzlik co-hosted the Halloween Hoopfest event which featured matchups between high school and prep school programs throughout the Southland. In this piece we take a closer look at the top performers.

[player_tooltip player_id='2131783' first='Antwain' last='Johnson'], 2026, Pacifica Christian/OC

Johnson looked to be playing with much more confidence than he did last season and that's definitely normal for a guy going into his second season of high school ball. The 6-foot-3 lefty is a smooth ball handler and creator for himself and others off the dribble. Johnson's mid-range jump shot was falling with an effortless consistency Sunday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1502868' first='Devin' last='Ringer'], 2024, Redondo Union

Ringer's ascension as one of the more improved SoCal guards earned another check mark next to his name. The 6-foot-3 senior looks very poised and comfortable being the primary playmaker and decision-maker for the Redondo offense. His ability to knock down three-point shots off the catch and off the dribble makes him that much more intriguing of a prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='1630632' first='EJ' last='Spillman'], 2025, Pacifica Christian/OC

Spillman has always been a talented and productive high school player but the improvements we saw Sunday had nothing to do with a skill-set but a discipline, instead. Spillman has trimmed his body down considerably and it showed on the court in his improved conditioning and a little bit more quickness in his already shifty game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1630637' first='Jaedyn' last='Patterson'], 2025, St. Monica

Patterson made the move to St. Monica after a season at Loyola and will be an immediate impact player for new coach Allen Caveness once he's cleared to take the floor. The 6-foot-2 combo guard is of the "wired-to-score" variety of player who can also play-make for teammates in transition and half-court offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1409988' first='Larry' last='Johnson'], 2024, Southern California Academy

Johnson is one of the most dynamic and explosive athletes in the country but its his ability to harness it and use it when needed is what's most impressive about his game. The 6-foot-4 guard has a quick first step, second-level burst and the ability to explode to the rim and finish through or above contact.

Martin Somerville, 2024, Southern California Academy

Somerville is a smooth-shooting left-handed point guard whose fluid pull-up jumper from three and mid-range makes him a guy who can fill up the scoring column in a hurry. The senior also has the ball on a string and create in isolation or out of ball-screen action with his ability to probe into the lane and find open teammates.
