There were a good number of players at the event that I hadn’t really had the chance to scout and evaluate, at least in depth or in a while. City Slam gave me that opportunity. Let’s look at some of the players that were new or newer faces to me.
Ross was one of the more impressive players in the building. I really liked the way he controlled the game from backcourt. And he did it on both ends of the floor. Ross is an athletic multi level scorer that can shoot with range beyond the arc as well as put the ball on the floor and attack the rim.
Highlights
Ryan Long
Ryan Long
Long is a player to watch out for this coming high school season. I really liked the positive energy and hustle he brought to the floor. Long is the kind of kid and player that can do wonders for a program’s culture. He’s a good floor leader that can handle the ball and pass on the move at a high level.
Austin Reyna
Austin Reyna
Reyna definitely turned some heads at the City Slam Championships and I’m glad that I saw him play. I really liked his perimeter passing at the event. Reyna seemed to have a great feel for the game and feel for where the ball needed to go. He swung it quickly on the perimeter which led to looks at the rim for teammates. Reyna also showed that he could hit cutting teammates with an accurate and timely feed.
Bruce Haynes
Bruce Haynes
Haynes was very impressive at the City Slam event. He was very athletic with the ability to get up and down the floor with ease. I was especially impressed with his work on the defensive end. Haynes was active and vocal on that end, directing traffic and letting his teammates know where he’d be.
Gregg Lewis Jr.
Gregg Lewis Jr.
Lewis Jr. was very impressive at City Slam. He’s a post player that should be on some radars. He has a next level frame and build right now. This give Lewis the ability to bang and body under the rim. The best part though, is that he has soft hands and pretty touch around the rim to go with that power.
Gerray Turner
Gerray Turner
Tuner showed himself and put his name on the map at the City Slam Championships! He’s a solid perimeter player with a ton of upside. Turner showed that he could handle the ball and distribute with and against some very high level talent. He’s a prospect with a bright future.
Jayden Shelton
Jayden Shelton
They’ve got something going at St. Clair and it showed at the City Slam. Shelton is a yet another very high upside player in that program. He showed that he could play the game at a high speed and make smart decisions with the ball. Shelton had impressive ease of movement and it will be fun to watch him develop his game.
