La Cueva is the most stacked team in the state on paper. The recent transfer of Dylan Chavez Dylan Chavez 6'5" | SG La Cueva | 2024 State #268 Nation NM from ABC Prep is huge for the Bears and completely shifts the landscape of New Mexico basketball for next season. The Bears bring back their two returning starters from last year’s senior-heavy squad in Dyer and Lovato, two physical players who both dominate the paint, and they will bring up Jacobsen, who spent time on both JV and Varsity last year, whose height and skill-set will make the Bears a force to be reckoned with in the paint at all times.
Volcano Vista Hawks
- Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM (#2 C/O 2025)
- Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM (#4 C/O 2025)
- Brendan Rico Brendan Rico 5'6" | CG Volcano Vista | 2026 State NM (#10 C/O 2026)
Volcano Vista is coming off back-to-back state championships, where they’ve had a multitude of top 10 players on their roster. This year, as they hunt for a third straight 5A title, they bring back two key pieces from last year’s championship team in DPOY Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM and Gatorade POY Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM , who are arguably the best guard-forward duo in the state. They also add sophomore Brendan Rico Brendan Rico 5'6" | CG Volcano Vista | 2026 State NM who will have every opportunity to earn key rotational minutes for the Hawks as a quick shifty guard.
Organ Mountain Knights
- Brandon Kehres (#6 C/O 2024)
- Lenny Washington Lenny Washington 6'4" | SG Organ Mountain | 2025 State NM (#6 C/O 2025)
Organ Mountain was the biggest stock riser from last year, and easily the biggest surprise, though this year it would be hard to label them as a dark horse as they emerge as a true contender for the upcoming season. Kehres has continually shown throughout his high school career that he is a monster in the paint and this offseason has continued to get his name out there. Washington returns from a knee injury and has impressed during the offseason, showcasing extreme athletic ability and a plethora of offensive skills.
Atrisco Heritage Jaguars
- Marquise Renfro Marquise Renfro 6'0" | SG Atrisco Heritage | 2024 State NM (#9 C/O 2024)
- Latavious Morris Latavious Morris 5'8" | PG Atrisco Heritage | 2025 State NM (#3 C/O 2025)
Atrisco has arguably the most athletic backcourt in the state, and they’ve proven that they can take the Jaguars to great lengths. Morris is perhaps the quickest guard in New Mexico and has been in the eyes of scouts since the beginning of his high school career. Renfro combines his strong frame with freak athleticism to make him one of the best two-way players in the state. Together, these two are dominant on both sides of the ball and will be the face of the Jaguars next season.
Cleveland Storm
- Daniel Steverson Daniel Steverson 6'2" | SG Cleveland | 2025 #315 Nation NM (#2 C/O 2024)
- Remy Albrecht Remy Albrecht 5'11" | PG Cleveland | 2026 State NM (#1 C/O 2026)
Cleveland has been one of the most dominant teams in the past decade, and they have shown no signs of slowing down. Steverson has been an elite player in New Mexico for basically his entire basketball career and continues to grow as a player. He’s used this offseason to get his name out and has garnered lots of interest from colleges. Albrecht established himself as one of the best shooters in the state this past year, and will continue to expand his game as his time comes closer to take over the lead guard role for the Storm.
